Position: Sous Chef

Location: Richmond Hill

About Us: Banya No. 2 is a sauna spa with a restaurant and a bar dedicated to providing Eastern European+ cuisine to our valued customers. We take pride in our commitment to quality and impeccable service. To support our kitchen team in maintaining our high standards, we are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Sous Chef to join our ranks.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Chef with daily kitchen operations and food preparation
  • Prepare and cook menu items according to recipes, portion standards, and presentation guidelines
  • Ensure consistent food quality, taste, presentation, and portion sizes
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen at all times
  • Follow and enforce food safety, sanitation, and proper food-handling procedures
  • Monitor food temperatures, storage, labeling, and rotation (FIFO)
  • Ensure prep is completed accurately and on time before service
  • Help manage the kitchen and make operational decisions when the Head Chef is unavailable
  • Identify low-stock items and communicate ordering needs
  • Maintain kitchen equipment and report maintenance or safety issues promptly
  • Assist with opening and closing kitchen procedures
  • Maintain a professional, respectful, and team-oriented work environment
  • Be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and busy periods as required
  • Assist with dishwashing if needed

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a kitchen or restaurant environment is a plus, but not required.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn from the kitchen team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
  • Ability to work as part of a cohesive team and communicate effectively.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Speaking Russian is not mandatory, but it will help.
