Job Title: Environmental Services Technician

Position Reports To: Clinic Operations & Patient Experience Manager

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout Cleveland Clinic Canada in accordance with organizational policies, infection prevention and control (IPAC) standards, and applicable regulatory requirements. This role supports exceptional patient care by ensuring clinical and non-clinical areas are cleaned and disinfected, medical instruments are appropriately processed, supplies are replenished, and inventory levels are maintained. The Environmental Services Technician contributes to a safe, welcoming, and efficient environment for patients, visitors, and caregivers.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Environmental Services and Infection Prevention

  • Clean, disinfect, and prepare examination rooms between patients in accordance with infection prevention and control (IPAC) standards.
  • Clean, sterilize, and prepare reusable medical instruments and maintain sterile supplies in examination rooms.
  • Clean and replenish washrooms, waiting areas, physician offices, consultation rooms, food service areas, and other clinical and administrative spaces.
  • Collect and dispose of biomedical waste and soiled linens following organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain clean, organized clinical workspaces, storage areas, and supply cupboards.
  • Follow established cleaning schedules, use appropriate cleaning products and PPE, and report maintenance or safety concerns.

Inventory and Supply Management

  • Receive, unpack, and distribute deliveries of medical supplies, linens, and other materials.
  • Restock clinical and non-clinical areas to ensure adequate supply levels.
  • Monitor inventory, maintain organized storage areas, and notify appropriate staff of replenishment needs.
  • Stock patient amenities, including food and beverage stations, and rotate inventory using the First In, First Out (FIFO) method.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and caregivers.
  • Comply with organizational policies, occupational health and safety requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the scope of the position as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in environmental services, housekeeping, or a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control (IPAC) principles and medical instrument reprocessing is an asset.
  • Experience operating or knowledge of autoclave sterilization equipment is an asset.
  • Inventory management or supply replenishment experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of cleaning products, disinfectants, and safe handling procedures is an asset.
  • Basic computer skills for inventory tracking and communication are an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to frequently bend, reach, stoop, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 20 lbs (9 kg) on a regular basis.
  • Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and transport supplies throughout the clinic.

The salary range reflects the expected compensation for this position. The final salary offered will be determined based on a holistic assessment of the candidates’ experience, education, training and alignment with the role’s expectations.
