Full job description

The General Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations to assist physicians and healthcare providers in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The technologist operates ultrasound equipment, obtains high-quality diagnostic images, ensures patient safety and comfort, and maintains accurate documentation in accordance with departmental policies and professional standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, pelvic, obstetrical, gynecological, small parts, vascular, and musculoskeletal studies, as applicable.
  • Review patient history, physician orders, and clinical information to determine appropriate imaging protocols.
  • Explain examination procedures to patients and address questions or concerns.
  • Position patients appropriately and operate ultrasound equipment to obtain optimal diagnostic images.
  • Evaluate image quality and ensure examinations meet established clinical and technical standards.
  • Recognize and document significant findings for radiologist or physician review.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and examination documentation within electronic medical record and imaging systems.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control practices, patient privacy regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Monitor and maintain ultrasound equipment, reporting malfunctions and coordinating service as required.
  • Collaborate effectively with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives, continuing education, and departmental meetings.
  • Assist with training and mentoring students or new staff members as required.

QualificationsEducation

  • Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Ultrasound Technology program.

Certification and Registration

  • Current CMRITO certification.
  • Member of Sonography Canada

Experience

  • Previous experience in general ultrasound preferred.
  • Experience in hospital, outpatient, or diagnostic imaging settings considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of ultrasound imaging principles, anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
  • Proficiency in operating diagnostic ultrasound equipment and related imaging software.
  • Excellent patient care and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining professional competency and continuing education.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $37.00-$52.00 per hour
