About Aworie Health
Aworie Health is a Toronto‑based, equity‑focused mental health clinic providing accessible, culturally responsive psychotherapy and coaching for diverse communities. Our work is grounded in measurement‑based care, trauma‑informed practice, cultural humility, and client‑centered treatment planning.
The Opportunity
We are recruiting an experienced associate therapist (independent contractor) who is ready to step into a high‑engagement, growth‑oriented role. You will carry a primarily individual adult caseload (with opportunities for couples, family, and groups based on your specialization), in a hybrid model (virtual plus in‑person at our Adelaide office).
This role is ideal for someone who:
- Wants to grow to a full caseload in the next 6-8 months.
- Thrives with substantial clinical autonomy and accountability.
- Is deeply committed to anti‑oppressive practice, and comfortable working with BIPOC and other equity‑seeking clients.
Core Responsibilities
Clinical
- Provide high‑quality individual (and optional couple/family/group) psychotherapy using evidence‑based modalities (e.g., CBT, DBT, SFBT, trauma‑focused work).
- Integrate trauma‑informed, culturally responsive, and anti‑oppressive lenses in all clinical encounters.
- Complete biopsychosocial‑cultural‑spiritual assessments, collaboratively develop and update treatment plans, and use measurement‑based tools to track outcomes.
- Maintain thorough, timely clinical documentation in the EMR in line with CRPO/OCSWSSW and PHIPA standards.
- Conduct comprehensive intake assessments, including risk, trauma history, cultural identity, and social determinants of health, and formulate clear case conceptualizations.
- Deliver crisis assessment and intervention for clients presenting with suicidality, self‑harm, acute distress, or significant functional impairment, with appropriate safety planning and follow‑up.
- Provide stepped‑care interventions (brief, solution‑focused, or longer‑term therapy) based on client need, readiness, and clinical risk, adjusting intensity over time.
- Integrate standardized screening and outcome measures at intake and at regular intervals to inform treatment planning and demonstrate progress to clients.
- Coordinate care with external providers (e.g., family physicians, psychiatrists, community agencies) when consent is provided, to support continuity and wrap‑around care.
- Offer psychoeducation to clients (and families when appropriate) about diagnoses, treatment options, medications as relevant, and recovery/relapse‑prevention strategies.
- Develop and periodically review collaborative relapse‑prevention and maintenance plans, including early‑warning signs and coping strategies.
- Maintain strong boundaries and ethical practice around dual relationships, online presence, and social media, consistent with CRPO/OCSWSSW standards.
- Participate in developing and refining group therapy, workshops, or psychoeducational offerings aligned with your specialization (e.g., racial trauma, anxiety groups, ADHD skills).
- Document risk assessments, safety plans, consultations, and significant clinical decisions clearly and promptly to support continuity and medico‑legal defensibility.
Collaboration & Professional Development
- Attend regular clinical consultation/supervision and peer case conceptualization meetings.
- Stay current with best practices and emerging literature, especially in trauma, anti‑racism, and culturally responsive care.
- Optional: Provide supervision/mentorship to junior clinicians or students, if experienced and interested.
Practice‑Building & Hybrid Work
- Commit to a consistent schedule that supports building and maintaining a full caseload (e.g., 12-30 direct‑client hours/week; you can define this number based on your model).
- Provide both virtual and in‑person sessions, ensuring your home office set-up is private, secure, and reliable.
- Collaborate with Aworie’s intake and marketing systems (e.g., timely responses to new referrals, participation in directories/content as appropriate).
Ideal Candidate Profile
Required
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology, Psychotherapy, or related field.
- Registration in good standing with CRPO or OCSWSSW (or equivalent Ontario regulatory body), with active professional liability insurance.
- Minimum 5 years direct clinical experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with Black and other racialized clients and applying anti‑Black racism and anti‑oppressive frameworks in therapy.
- Strong competency with at least three evidence‑based modalities (e.g., CBT, DBT, EMDR, EFT, IFS‑informed, somatic approaches, etc.).
- Comfortable using PMS and telehealth platforms; strong written documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently as an IC while engaging respectfully in a collaborative team.
- Experience working with clients who have recent undergone a motor vehicle accident or workplace mental health injury.
- Proficiency in a language in addition to English (e.g., French, Spanish, Punjabi, Somali, Arabic, Farsi, Hindi, etc.) is considered an asset.
- Specialized training in trauma, racial trauma, couples therapy, or neurodiversity‑affirming care is considered an asset.
- Experience supervising or mentoring therapists/learners is considered an asset.
- Comfort integrating clients’ spiritual or religious identities into treatment when appropriate is considered an asset.
Independent Contractor & Compensation
- Status: Independent Contractor
- Compensation: $58.50-$104.00 per hour
- Expected hours: Agreement on a minimum clinical availability per week (Ideal contractors work 12–30 client hours).
You may also note:
- Administrative support, marketing, and steady referrals provided by Aworie, allowing you to focus primarily on clinical work.
- No overhead for office space, practice tools, or PMS beyond the agreed hourly rate.
