Full job description

EDealer is a website and software supplier for the Automotive Industry. Our mission is simple: To ensure car dealers build great business and manage inventory. Steadfast in our commitment to create exceptional learning experiences for our clients, we are a passionate group of integrity-powered leaders who love to learn, grow and make a difference. Today we are focused on Merchandising Automation and Vehicle Optimization. Consistent with our long-term goals, our objective is to reduce the time required by dealers to reach the maximum number of customers with consistent accurate, merchandised inventory.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Developer to build and evolve the services that power EDealer's dealer websites and inventory search. Our platform serves automotive dealers across Canada and operates at scale: high traffic public sites, real time inventory and pricing data, and integrations with OEM and third party feeds. Reliability and performance are business critical, so rigorous code review, careful engineering, and safe production deployment are central to succeeding in this role.

This is a senior role with real ownership, reporting to the Software Development Manager for your team. You will own components of the platform outright, make the technical decisions within those areas, and set the standard for engineering quality through the code you write and the code you review. You will work alongside an established team of developers and partner closely with Product, Design, and Engineering leadership. For the right person who delivers strong outcomes, there is a credible path to expanded technical scope and influence as the engineering organization grows.

We offer a competitive salary ($150,000.00 - $170,000.00); a competitive bonus plan; paid time off; participation in our benefits, RRSP matching, and life insurance programs; continuous learning; an amazing culture; and so much more!

What You Will Do:

  • Take ownership of components of the EDealer platform, including the backend services, APIs, and data pipelines that power dealer websites at scale.

  • Make sound technical and architectural decisions within your areas of ownership, balancing delivery speed, maintainability, reliability, and performance.
  • Design and build features that handle inventory, pricing, incentives, and lead flows, with accuracy and scale in mind from the start.
  • Work with product owners, managers, and cross functional teams to deliver projects that further the business.
  • Review pull requests and participate in production deployments, holding a high bar for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
  • Support developed solutions in production, including incident response, root cause analysis, and follow through on preventative fixes.
  • Raise the capability of the team through code review, technical guidance, and shared engineering practices.
  • Contribute to platform health, including observability, query and API performance, technical debt reduction, and engineering standards.
  • Leverage AI driven development practices as part of your everyday workflow, and help raise the bar for how the team applies them.

What You Will Need:

  • 5+ years of professional Java experience, including 3+ years with Spring Boot, with demonstrated experience operating at a senior level.

  • 5+ years of experience with SQL and relational databases, including reasoning about query behaviour and performance.
  • Professional experience with Git, Maven, and modern software development workflows.
  • Strong understanding of object oriented design, API design, and maintainable software architecture.
  • Ability to produce clean code and follow project conventions.
  • Strong automated testing practices, including unit and integration testing.
  • Excellent pull request review skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong debugging skills across application code, APIs, databases, integrations, caching and search, and production infrastructure, including performance issues under load.
  • Hands on experience with AI driven development, including agentic coding tools such as Claude Code or similar, with the judgment to know when AI output needs to be challenged, rewritten, or set aside.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt to technical and non technical audiences, from engineering partners to product stakeholders.
  • Critical thinking, autonomy, and sound judgment about when to decide and when to pull others in.

Nice to Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience with Elasticsearch or a similar search technology.
  • Experience with GraphQL, MySQL, or Kotlin.
  • Experience with AWS, particularly ECS and containerized service deployment.
  • Prior experience with high traffic, multi tenant, or white label web platforms.
  • Prior experience integrating third party or vendor data feeds.
  • Automotive, e-commerce, or marketplace domain experience.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive pay

  • Medical, Dental & Vision
  • RRSP matching
  • Company paid Group Life/AD&D insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Flexible working environment
  • Continuous Learning
  • And an amazing culture to top it all off!
