Full job description

The Education Authority is seeking passionate, dedicated, and culturally responsive educators to join our school team. In this role, you will deliver high-quality instruction aligned with the Ontario Curriculum while integrating local Anishinaabe (Ojibwe/Oji-Cree) knowledge, language, and culture. We look for educators committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and equitable learning environment that supports the academic, social, and cultural growth of First Nation students.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Delivery: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lesson plans across subject areas according to the Ontario Curriculum, modifying content to meet diverse student learning needs.

Cultural Integration: Collaboratively work with local Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and language teachers to weave community culture, traditions, and local land-based learning into daily lessons.

Classroom Environment: Maintain a positive, trauma-informed classroom dynamic that emphasizes equity, student well-being, and safe learning boundaries.

Assessment & Evaluation: Implement varied assessment strategies to track student progress and communicate growth effectively with parents, guardians, and administration.

Community Involvement: Active participation in community events and a willingness to build strong, respectful relationships outside the classroom walls.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Certification: Valid Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certificate in good standing, or eligibility for certification (inter-provincial applicants welcome).

Education: Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree.

Cultural Competence: Demonstrated understanding of First Nations history, the impacts of residential schools, and a willingness to practice culturally responsive teaching methods.

Adaptability: Proven resilience and self-care strategies suitable for living and working in a remote, northern environment.

Pre-Employment Clearances: Clear Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS)
