North Vancouver Recreation & Culture (NVRC) is dedicated to building healthy individuals, families and communities. NVRC offers a wide range of recreation and cultural programs and services to residents of all ages. This position offers the right person the opportunity to be part of an innovative staff team that makes a true difference in the lives of North Vancouver residents.

ABOUT THE JOB
If you are passionate about skating and understand what it takes to motivate people, come join our team as a contract Head Skate Instructor. As a Head Skate Instructor, you will provide excellent, recreation experiences for skate lesson participants. You will be responsible for coaching and leading Skating Instructors including training, supervising, scheduling and helping to create great Skating Lesson Plans. In addition, you will also be providing Skating Instruction.

You are a team player committed to community. You are courteous and effective with the public and enjoy working with a diverse group of people. You are able to respond and communicate effectively to customer needs and those of your team. You are able to put participant safety and enjoyment first. You are knowledgeable when it comes to ice related activities including current trends and issues. The ability to motivate and lead people is a must.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in a lead role with proven supervisory skills
  • Demonstrated instructional skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and customers
  • Standard First Aid certification
  • HIGH FIVE® certification


All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a requirement of the position. All candidates must be prepared to work at any of our facilities.

HOURS OF WORK:
Approximately 20 - 30 hours per week during the fall and winter and 10 – 20 hours in spring. Hours may vary and instructors should be prepared to workdays, evenings and/or weekends at any North Vancouver Recreation & Culture location.

HOURLY RATE:
The pay for this casual position ranges between $28.78 - $30.91 per hour, based on education and experience, plus 4% vacation pay.
