MANAGER, Non-Fee-For-Service Physician Engagement

The Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA) serves as a voluntary professional body representing physicians across Saskatchewan, with membership comprising over 90 percent of the province’s physicians. The SMA also offers membership for medical students and residents undertaking their training within Saskatchewan.

As the unified voice of the medical profession in the province, the SMA advocates on behalf of its members and engages in negotiations for physicians operating under fee-for-service, salaried, and alternative payment models.

We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time, permanent Manager, Non-Fee-For-Service (NFFS) Physician Engagement to join our growing team!

1. Strategic Leadership

  • Provides input to broader SMA planning processes and ensures that NFFS initiatives contribute meaningfully to SMA’s strategic objectives.
  • Provides leadership to SMA direct reports (if applicable) through delegation, coaching, mentoring, skill development, and performance management, ensuring the team is well-supported to deliver their responsibilities.

  • Prepares material and presentations for affected SMA members regarding proposed contract changes.

3. Contract Management and Member Support Services

  • Gathers information from SMA members to ensure compliance with current contracts and to provide information for future negotiations.
  • Provides trusted and expert advice to SMA members regarding self-employment status and inquiries related to NFFS contracts.
  • Provides assistance to SMA members encountering contractual difficulties with external employers or contracting agencies.

4. Stakeholder and Member engagement

  • Collaborates with other SMA teams (e.g. Economics, Workplace Wellbeing) and committees/boards to ensure alignment of strategies and programs.
  • Builds collaborative relationships with relevant physician groups to understand needs, emerging issues and priorities.
  • Maintains relationships with key partners (e.g. Ministry of Health, SHA), representing SMA interests and contributing to collaborative problem-solving.
  • Leads the development and coordination of strategic communications to inform and engage members, stakeholders, and partners on NFFS matters.
  • Supports SMA committees and physician leaders to strengthen their effectiveness in NFFS negotiations and governance, including onboarding, succession planning, leadership development, and alignment with SMA strategy.
  • Manages a portfolio of active cases of physician contract negotiations and contractual issues for resolution. Supports resolution of disputes and provides expertise on contractual matters to physicians in their work across clinical care, academic, and leadership duties in Saskatchewan.

5. Data Analysis & Reporting
