Full job description

This position works under the close supervision of an Early Childhood Educator to provide support and direct care to children under 3, including infants/toddlers and children with additional needs to promote their intellectual, physical, and emotional growth.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists in planning, carrying out, and supporting developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for children using modelling, observing, and reinforcing techniques

Supports the implementation of daily program schedules, including indoor/outdoor, active/quiet, and individual and group activities

Observes children and reports on their abilities, interests, needs, progress, and behaviours to the Early Childhood Educator

Assists in implementing individualized and group programming as directed by the Early Childhood Educator

Demonstrates respect, awareness, and cultural humility toward First Nations, Indigenous, and diverse cultural communities

Supports communication with families by sharing general information and referring questions or concerns to the Early Childhood Educator

Maintains required records and documentation as directed

Participates in program activities and supports overall program delivery

Attends to children’s physical needs, including diapering, toileting, eating, and sleeping

Assist in maintaining a healthy and safe environment by identifying and reporting potential hazards

Cleans, organizes, and maintains program equipment and facilities

Administers first aid in accordance with established policy (as required)

Works collaboratively with team members and follows direction from senior staff.

Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications Education, Training, and Experience

Valid Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) Certificate issued by the BC ECE Registry

Job Skills and Abilities:

Basic knowledge of child development

Ability to support program delivery within the program’s service model framework

Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written

Awareness of trauma-informed practice, including the impacts of violence, substance use, and systemic marginalization (considered an asset)

Ability to work effectively with diverse and marginalized populations

Commitment to cultural humility and inclusive practice

Basic computer skills

Organizational and time management skills appropriate to a support role

Ability to work effectively under close supervision and follow direction from a senior staff member

Pay: $25.17-$28.85 per hour
