ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for a proven OT Specialist to take ownership of industrial infrastructure and cybersecurity across our oil and gas operations. You will lead the design, implementation, and ongoing management of OT networks, remote communications, virtualisation platforms, and security tooling — ensuring high availability and compliance across all operational sites.
This role carries technical leadership responsibilities. You will mentor junior team members, drive standards, and act as a subject matter expert during projects, audits, and incident response.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
OT Network Architecture
- Design and maintain OT network architectures in accordance with the Purdue Model, including DMZ configuration and inter-level segmentation.
- Implement and manage high-availability topologies — ring protocols (MRP, PRP, HSR), failover mechanisms, and redundant paths for critical process networks.
- Lead network assessments, capacity planning, and performance optimisation across plant and field networks.
Remote Communications
- Own the deployment and lifecycle management of VSAT, radio, and cellular (4G/5G) communication systems at remote and offshore sites.
- Optimise link performance, QoS, and bandwidth allocation to ensure reliable SCADA and safety-critical traffic delivery.
- Manage vendor relationships and service agreements for satellite and telecommunications providers.
Virtualisation and Systems
- Manage Hyper-V and ESXi environments including cluster operations, VM lifecycle, storage integration, and disaster recovery.
- Lead computer system design activities — hardware specification, architecture documentation, FAT/SAT, and commissioning.
- Drive patching strategies and firmware lifecycle management within change control frameworks.
Cybersecurity
- Implement and enforce OT cybersecurity standards (IEC 62443, NIST 800-82) across all infrastructure.
- Deploy and administer security tooling — preferably Claroty (CTD, xDome) and Cyolo for zero-trust remote access.
- Coordinate security audits, vulnerability assessments, and incident response for OT environments.
Leadership and Mentoring
- Mentor and develop junior OT specialists, providing technical guidance and knowledge transfer.
- Author and maintain technical standards, SOPs, and runbooks for OT infrastructure operations.
- Represent OT during cross-functional projects, capital planning, and management reviews.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in OT infrastructure, industrial networking, or ICS environments within oil and gas or critical infrastructure.
- Strong practical knowledge of the Purdue Model and high-availability industrial network design.
- Proven experience with VSAT, radio, and cellular communications in remote or offshore settings.
- Solid Hyper-V and/or ESXi administration skills in operational environments.
- Working knowledge of OT cybersecurity standards (IEC 62443, NIST 800-82).
- Degree or diploma in a relevant technical discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- CISSP, GICSP, or equivalent cybersecurity certification.
- Experience with Claroty and/or Cyolo platforms.
- Networking certifications (CCNA/CCNP, Hirschmann HNAP) or virtualisation certifications (VCP, MCSE).
- Computer system design experience including hardware specification and lifecycle management.
- Familiarity with industrial protocols (Modbus, OPC UA, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP) and SIS requirements (IEC 61511).
CORE COMPETENCIES
- Strong troubleshooting under pressure with methodical problem-solving skills.
- Clear communicator — able to translate technical concepts for operations and management audiences.
- Self-directed, comfortable leading work at remote and offshore sites.
- Collaborative across OT, IT, engineering, and operations teams.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Travel to onshore plants, offshore platforms, and remote facilities.
- On-call participation for OT infrastructure and security incidents.
- Work in hazardous industrial environments with PPE and permit-to-work requirements.
- Flexibility for shift patterns during shutdowns, turnarounds, and commissioning.
