Senior Support Worker jobs

Together We Can is looking for a caring, organized, and dependable Senior Peer Support Worker (SPSW) to help create a welcoming and well-supported experience for participants entering our Spirit Path program in Terrace, BC. This position will manage client care, address behavioral issues and special client requests, and supervise Peer Support Workers (PSWs), ensuring professional, culturally safe and trauma-informed care. The SPSW will be responsible for reporting and recording the results of drug and alcohol testing. This person will ensure they follow the policies, procedures, and regulations set forth by Together We Can, as well as our licensing/registration requirements.

The Senior Peer Support Worker is responsible for supporting incoming participants, maintaining accurate and organized records, managing facility supplies, and providing front-facing administrative support such as answering phones and general emails.

What you will do

• Ability to interact courteously, tactfully and empathetically with clients, co-workers, family members, visitors and the public
• Collaborate with Case Manager(s) to resolve any concerns, questions, or accommodations as required by facility participants
• Establish and maintain rapport with clients
• Provide progress reports/check-ins with clients to ensure accountability on their part for their progression within the program
• Help clients work toward their goals
• Resolve conflicts and provide crisis intervention
• Analyze, make decisions and resolve problems concerning client care
• Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
• Facilitate getting clients to and from their appointments outside of the facility as needed
• Deal with any medical emergencies
• Ensure, overall, that the operation of the residential facility is safely maintained
• Monitor and supervise the activities and behaviours of clients
• Maintain safety and security within the facility
• Dispense and observe clients taking their medications as required, and record on the client’s individual Medication Administration Record (MAR) sheet
• Coordinate the chore lists, journals and client responsibilities lists
• Respond to incoming calls in a manner that respects the clients’ needs and the confidential nature of Together We Can’s operation.
• Communicate regularly with Together We Can staff by e-mail and in writing in the communication log during shifts regarding client issues, such as at-risk clients, notable behaviours from the reporting day, crisis management, facility maintenance, facility supplies and any other areas of concern or unusual occurrences.
• Plan attendance at evening meetings and organize transportation
• Phone in medication refills for clients
• Prepare the doctors' list as needed
• Occasional progress reports and client check-ins
• Conduct urinalysis testing
• Provide enhanced client support when individuals are ill or require extra attention, ensuring timely monitoring, wellness checks, and responsive care delivered directly by trained staff as required under licensing or registration regulations.
• Provide direct oversight of volunteers during any peer‑support‑style tasks by remaining present or readily available, ensuring volunteers carry out their activities safely and in accordance with program expectations and licensing or registration requirements.

What you bring

• High School diploma/GED
• First Aid & Naloxone Training
• Together We Can Volunteer Training Program Certification
• 2+ years of work experience in a similar role

Skills and strengths

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work with compassion towards people who suffer from addiction issues
• Willingness to continue training/education in addiction recovery and therapeutic regimens
• Basic phone/computer/electronics skills (email, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Internet, Fax, Copier, etc.)
• Time management in prioritizing and carrying out assigned tasks with minimal supervision
• Non-violent crisis intervention & conflict de-escalation skills

Pay: $25.00-$27.00 per hour
