Position: Occupational Health and Safety Officer

Company: Expert Geophysics Surveys Inc.

Work Location: Office location - Newmarket, Ontario, Some International travel required.

Job Type:

This is a full-time role consisting of 40 hours per week. There is an existing vacancy for this position.

Expert Geophysics Surveys Inc. is a leading airborne geophysical survey company supporting mineral exploration worldwide. Our operations depend on safe, disciplined, and highly regulated airborne field execution across diverse and often remote environments.

We are seeking an experienced occupational health and safety professional to support the development and implementation of practical systems that enable safe, efficient operations including airborne survey operations in the field.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Global Operations and Safety Manager, the Lead, Health, the Occupational Health and Safety Officer plays a key role in supporting a safe and compliant work environment.

This position provides practical health and safety leadership to managers, supervisors, field crews, technical staff, and employees. The role focuses on hazard identification, risk assessment, legislative compliance, worker training, incident prevention, emergency preparedness, Joint Health and Safety Committee support, and safe execution of domestic and international airborne geophysical survey projects.

Job Duties:

  • Interpretation of H&S legislative requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Translating legislation, standards, regulatory guidance, and client requirements into practical procedures, tools, and guidance that field and operational personnel can apply effectively.
  • Providing risk-based advice to operational teams on how to meet requirements in remote and field-driven environments.
  • Monitoring legislative and industry changes and assessing their practical impact on company operations, documentation, and field processes.
  • Supporting interactions with regulators, clients, and external stakeholders where legislative interpretation or compliance input is required.
  • Developing, revising, and improving manuals, procedures, field guidance, and safety documentation related to remote field operations.
  • Collaborating closely with field crews, project managers, engineering, and field operations to identify operational risks and develop practical controls.
  • Helping build a culture where safety is understood, owned, and applied by end users in the field.
  • Participating in incident and near-miss reviews, root cause analysis, and corrective action development.
  • Managing WSIB reporting and ownership of claims.
  • Conducting reviews and gap assessments of procedures, practices, and documentation against applicable requirements and operational needs.

Qualifications

· Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering Technology, Science, Aviation Safety, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Minimum of 3-5 years of occupational health and safety experience, preferably in manufacturing, industrial operations, aviation, mining, exploration, geophysics, remote field operations, or project-based technical services.

· Experience conducting workplace inspections, developing safe work procedures, delivering safety training, leading incident investigations, and tracking corrective actions.

· Ability to support both manufacturing operations and remote field teams.

· Strong written communication skills, including the ability to write policies, procedures, field HSE plans, reports, training materials, and investigation summaries.

· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence employees, supervisors, contractors, and senior leaders.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Work environment: This role is best suited to someone who enjoys working closely with operations, solving practical problems, and building systems that help field teams work safely and effectively in demanding environments.

Compensation

This position offers a salary range of $60,000 to $100,000 annually. While the full range is posted for transparency, our target hiring rate for this role is typically at the midpoint of the range. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's skills, education and relevant experience as they relate to the role.
