Job Summary

Burlington Auto Works is looking for an experienced Shop Manager / Senior Service Advisor to take ownership of the day-to-day operation of our busy automotive repair facility.

This is a key leadership position within our company. We are looking for someone who can manage the daily workflow of the shop, support our technicians, work directly with customers, and solve the inevitable problems that come up throughout the day.

The owner will remain involved in the business, particularly with, technical support, major decisions, and overall company direction. However, the goal of this position is for the Shop Manager to become the person responsible for keeping the business running smoothly on a daily basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced automotive professional who wants more responsibility and the opportunity to have a meaningful role in how a successful independent repair shop operates and grows.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the shop and ensure vehicles move efficiently from appointment through completion
  • Coordinate and prioritize work for technicians based on workload, skill level, parts availability, and customer commitments
  • Monitor jobs throughout the day, identify potential delays or problems, and take action to keep the schedule on track
  • Manage technician productivity, shop efficiency, quality control, and overall workflow
  • Handle customer concerns and resolve service-related problems professionally and fairly
  • Ensure technicians have the parts, information, approvals, tooling, and resources required to complete their work
  • Lead, support, and develop employees while maintaining clear expectations and accountability
  • Manage employee scheduling, attendance, performance concerns, workplace issues, and day-to-day staff matters
  • Identify staffing needs and participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and selecting new employees
  • Oversee the onboarding and training of new technicians, apprentices, service advisors, and support staff
  • Provide coaching and feedback to employees and help develop strong performers and future leaders within the business
  • Help maintain a positive, professional, organized, and productive workplace culture
  • Identify operational problems, implement practical solutions, and continually look for ways to improve the business
  • Communicate important operational, staffing, customer, and financial issues to ownership while taking increasing responsibility for the overall performance of the shop

Requirements

  • Significant automotive service industry experience
  • Previous experience as a service advisor, shop foreman, service manager, fixed operations manager, or similar role
  • Strong understanding of automotive repair and terminology
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong leadership and organizational abilities
  • Experience managing employees and dealing with performance or staffing issues
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities at the same time
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Confidence explaining repairs and recommendations to customers
  • The ability to communicate effectively with experienced automotive technicians
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good computer skills and experience with automotive shop management software
  • The ability to remain organized and level-headed during a busy day
  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability

A licensed automotive technician background would be considered a strong asset, but this is primarily a management and service advisor position rather than a technician position.

We're not looking for someone who simply waits for instructions.

We're looking for someone who sees a problem and works toward a solution.

You should be comfortable making decisions, setting priorities, managing employees, holding people accountable, helping employees succeed, and taking responsibility for the outcome of the day.

You should also understand that excellent customer service doesn't mean simply saying yes to every customer. It means setting realistic expectations, communicating clearly, dealing with problems professionally, and making sure customers feel confident that their vehicle is being looked after.

Burlington Auto Works is an established independent automotive repair facility in Burlington, Ontario.

We have built our business around providing professional automotive repair, strong technical capability, honest recommendations, and a high level of customer service.

We invest heavily in our employees, equipment, tooling, technology, and facility, and we are looking for someone who wants to help us continue building a strong and well-organized automotive service business.

This is not simply a service advisor position. We are looking for someone who wants to lead a team, take ownership of an operation, and help make the business better.

Pay: $85,000.00-$150,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Extended health care
  • Paid time off
  • RRSP match
  • Store discount
