Full job description
KAN Recruitment is currently seeking a Strategic Technology Advisor (STA/vCIO) for an established Managed Service Provider (MSP) client. The successful candidate may be located anywhere in Alberta.
The Strategic Technology Advisor will serve as a trusted advisor to assigned customers, helping business leaders align their technology investments with their organizational goals.
This role provides executive-level consulting, develops long-term technology roadmaps, identifies business risks and opportunities, and recommends strategic initiatives to improve security, productivity, operational efficiency, and return on investment.
This is a technology strategy and business consulting position—not a commercial account management role. Commercial discussions, renewals, licensing, agreements, quoting, and proposal administration are managed by the Client Success Manager with support from the Design Desk.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Account Management
- Serve as the trusted technology advisor for assigned customers.
- Build strong relationships with executives and key stakeholders.
- Understand each customer’s business goals, challenges, and future plans.
- Align technology recommendations with measurable business outcomes.
- Develop and maintain a multi-year technology roadmap for every assigned customer.
Executive Consulting
- Lead Quarterly Business Reviews and annual strategic planning sessions.
- Present executive-level reports and recommendations.
- Advise customers on budgeting, technology lifecycle planning, investments, and risk management.
- Translate complex technical concepts into practical business language.
Technology and Cybersecurity Strategy
- Assess customer environments against company standards and industry best practices.
- Identify technology debt, aging infrastructure, cybersecurity concerns, and operational risks.
- Develop recommendations for modernization, standardization, and improved cybersecurity.
- Guide customers in adopting technologies and practices related to:
- Microsoft 365
- Cloud services and Microsoft Azure
- Identity and access management
- Endpoint security
- Email security
- Backup and disaster recovery
- Security awareness training
- Zero Trust principles
Strategic Opportunity Identification
Identify initiatives that improve customer operations, including:
- Infrastructure refreshes
- Cloud and Microsoft 365 modernization
- Cybersecurity improvements
- Artificial intelligence adoption
- Network upgrades
- Business continuity improvements
- Business process automation
- Digital transformation initiatives
Customer Success
- Monitor customer health and progress toward strategic goals.
- Identify business and technology risks before they become operational issues.
- Encourage the adoption of strategic recommendations.
- Support customer retention through proactive planning and ongoing value creation.
- Act as each customer’s long-term technology advisor.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in IT consulting, managed services, or technology leadership.
- Previous MSP experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience developing technology strategies and long-term roadmaps.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure, cloud services, networking, and cybersecurity.
- Ability to lead client meetings and present recommendations to business leaders.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to explain technical information in clear business language.
- Relevant IT education or certifications are considered an asset.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel within Alberta as required.
We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
Pay: $100,000.00-$115,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- RRSP match
- Work from home
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Alberta
