Full job description

Location: Burnaby, BC initially, with required relocation to Kelowna, BC
Job Type: Full-time, in person
Department: ISP – Cleaning, Repair & Inspection Services
Starting Role: Seamstress I, with progression toward a future Kelowna supervisory role
Compensation: Hourly to start, based on experience and qualifications

About Us

Associated Fire Safety Group provides firefighting and safety equipment, services, and support to fire departments across Western Canada and the Territories. Our ISP Department specializes in inspection, cleaning, repair, and maintenance of firefighting turnout gear.

We are hiring an experienced seamstress to train within our Burnaby ISP Department and support the future growth of our Kelowna operation.

Position Summary

This role will be hired at the Seamstress I level and will begin in Burnaby, BC for training within the ISP Department. The successful candidate will learn AFSG’s ISP processes, complete turnout gear repairs, and support inspection, documentation, and repair workflows before progressing toward supervisory responsibilities for the Kelowna ISP operation.

This is a long-term Kelowna-based opportunity. Once training and role progression requirements have been met, relocation to Kelowna will be required.

Progression into supervisory responsibilities will be based on the successful candidate demonstrating the required technical skills, quality of work, reliability, accountability, leadership ability, and overall readiness to meet department needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete standard turnout gear repairs, including shell and liner repairs.
  • Operate industrial sewing equipment safely and competently.
  • Follow department repair procedures, work order instructions, and quality standards.
  • Support intake, inspection, cleaning, repair, documentation, and shipment preparation processes.
  • Maintain accurate work order and repair documentation.
  • Support advanced repairs, patch applications, and garment alterations as skills progress.
  • Communicate clearly with department leadership regarding work status, questions, and repair concerns.
  • Assist with workflow coordination and team training as the role develops.
  • Prepare for future supervisory responsibility as the Kelowna operation grows.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a seamstress, sewing operator, garment repair technician, or similar role is required.
  • Experience using industrial sewing equipment is required.
  • Strong sewing, garment repair, alteration, or textile repair skills are required.
  • Experience with firefighting turnout gear, PPE, or industrial textiles is an asset.
  • Previous leadership, training, or supervisory experience is an asset but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Reliable, accountable, and able to work independently.
  • Comfortable learning technical repair processes and documentation requirements.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Willing and able to relocate to Kelowna once training and role progression requirements are met.
  • Interest in developing into a leadership/supervisory role is required.

Compensation & Growth

This position will begin at the Seamstress I level, with compensation based on experience and qualifications.

As the successful candidate develops within the role, they will be expected to progress toward increased responsibility, including future supervisory responsibilities supporting the Kelowna ISP operation. Compensation will be reviewed as the role progresses and responsibilities increase.

Advancement will be based on demonstrated performance, technical ability, leadership readiness, and department needs, not length of service alone.

What We Offer

  • Full-time employment.
  • Dental and extended health benefits.
  • Paid time off.
  • Training within an established ISP Department.
  • Defined pathway for role progression.
  • Long-term opportunity to support a new regional operation in Kelowna.
