The Village of Lions Bay seeks qualified applicants for the new position of:
Operations Worker
The Village of Lions Bay is seeking a motivated and community-minded individual to join our Public Works team as a full-time Operations Worker. This entry-level position performs a wide range of manual and semi-skilled tasks that support the operation, maintenance, and improvement of municipal infrastructure in a small but busy municipality. The Village of Lions Bay offers a collaborative, team-oriented work environment in a unique Metro Vancouver community, on the Sea-to-Sky highway. The Village is committed to supporting education, encouraging growth, and promoting staff within the organization with training and education budget and long-term career growth plans.
While the role is an entry-level position with general labour and utility system support duties, the successful candidate will be encouraged and supported to pursue Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP) certification in Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection, and Water Treatment. The successful candidate is expected to have, or obtain within their first year of employment, EOCP Introduction to Public Works certification.

Amongst other duties, work of this class involves assisting with the operations and maintenance of:
- Boulevards, gardens, playgrounds and parks including trimming, pruning, watering trees and plants, and emptying garbage bins;
- Building and facilities including grounds, interior and exterior structures and finishes, roofs, plumbing, minor HVAC and electrical, and cleaning washrooms.
- Roads, including repair, drainage, clearing culverts and ditches, signage, traffic devices, and winter snow and ice control (plowing and shoveling);
- Water treatment and distribution systems to federal and provincial standards;
- Wastewater collection and treatment systems to federal and provincial standards;
- Water, sanitary, and storm distribution system including main and service installation and repair, supports emergency response efforts for utility breaks and infrastructure failures;
- Related duties as required.
Successful candidate will have sufficient strength, coordination, and ability to perform physical work in all-weather conditions. Duties are performed under close supervision, while exercising some independence of judgement in the routine tasks. Upon gaining a sound working knowledge and understanding of the municipality’s systems, you may be required to be on call after normal duty hours on rotation.
Education and experience:
- Completion of 12th grade required;
- Class 5 BC driver's license required;
- Technical courses in public works operations and maintenance preferred;
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, gas and electric chain saws, string trimmers, blowers; and working near heavy equipment, near traffic, and as traffic control preferred;
- Experience operating mowers, bobcats, excavators, skid steers and backhoes preferred;
- Minimum two years of municipal public works experience preferred;
- EOCP Introduction to Public Works, confined space entry, and fall arrest certification preferred, or a combination of equivalent training and experience. Successful applicant would be expected to obtain EOCP Introduction to Public Works within first year of employment;
