Overview

Baymag is seeking a Quality Control Supervisor to lead our Quality Control Laboratory at our Exshaw operation. Reporting to the Director, R&D, Quality and Process, this position is responsible for ensuring product quality, consistency, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across our calcined magnesium oxide production processes.

The successful candidate will provide leadership to laboratory personnel, support quality management systems, and work collaboratively with Production, Mining, Sales, and Technical teams to optimize product quality and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visible safety leadership and promote safe work practices.
  • Supervise, coach, mentor, and develop laboratory employees.
  • Oversee laboratory operations, scheduling, testing procedures, and quality control activities.
  • Maintain and improve laboratory procedures in accordance with ISO 9001 quality standards.
  • Monitor production quality and work closely with operations to address quality issues.
  • Utilize Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and statistical tools to analyze data and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead investigations into product non-conformances and customer complaints using root cause analysis methods.
  • Support HACCP, food safety, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Prepare quality reports and quality certificates.
  • Manage laboratory budgets, equipment maintenance, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Foster positive labour relations and administer the Collective Agreement fairly and consistently

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in quality control, laboratory operations, or manufacturing.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience working within ISO 9001 quality management systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and statistical analysis skills.
  • Experience with LIMS systems is considered an asset.
  • Experience in mining, minerals processing, refractory, cement, lime, chemical, or industrial manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time for customer visits, training, audits, conferences, and other business requirements.
