Shifts: Wednesday and Thursday 12 pm - 8 pm, Friday 3 pm - 8 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10 am - 6 pm

Job Summary

Identifies children and youths needs and risks. Develops and implements short-term, issue-specific intervention plans within program guidelines. Plans and conducts individual and/or group activity sessions using basic counselling techniques. Provides skill building in problem areas. Child minds at the House while mother attends counselling or support meetings.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1- Gathers information relevant to the children or youth's needs, challenges, and risks by interviewing, observing behaviour, meeting with mothers, and using a variety of inventories, checklists, and questionnaires. Reviews the information gathered to identify child/youth’s needs and risks.

2- Develops and implements short-term, issue-specific intervention plans within program guidelines in consultation with the supervisor.

3- Plans, prepares, and conducts group or individual activities using techniques such as active listening, conflict resolution, and basic psycho-educational group methods to resolve the identified problems, needs and risks.

4- Provides skill building in areas such as parenting skills, anger management or self-management techniques.

5- Evaluates the effectiveness of the intervention plan, reports on child’s progress, and discusses related concerns with the supervisor to resolve identified problems and move towards defined objectives.

6- Outlines services provided by the program and/or organization. Provides information on and referral to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required.

7- Maintains related records and statistics and provides reports to the supervisor as required.

8- Liaises with and/or promotes the interests of clients with other community service providers, professionals and school personnel as required. Accompanies clients to meetings and appointments as required.

9- Child minds when mothers attend counselling or support meetings.

10- Provides emotional support, encouragement, goal setting, and problem-solving supporting children/youth/and mothers in matters related to parenting.

11- Assists women with dependent care by providing emotional support to children and youth, monitoring and conducting developmentally appropriate recreational activities (such as craft projects, games, fun group or one to one activities) and attending to children’s physical needs.

12- Maintains resident records, documents, forms, and statistical information using Microsoft office suite and other relevant databases.

13- Maintains confidentiality of clients and clients related information.

14- Performs other related duties as required.

Education and Experience

· Requires a diploma in a related human / social service field.

· Intersectional feminist, anti-oppressive analysis of violence against women

· One year of recent related experience

· or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities:

· Good verbal and written communication skills

· Ability to work in a group as well as independently while guided by organizational policies.

· Competent in using Microsoft office suites such as outlook, word, excel, and cloud-based services.

· Fluency in languages other than English an asset

· Ability to meet the physical demand of the job.

Required:

· Standard First Aid Certificate CPR Level C with AED

· Vulnerable sector criminal records check required.

Pay: $31.56-$33.49 per hour

Education:

• DCS / DEC (preferred)

Experience:

• Adult, Child, Youth Worker: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

• First Aid CPR Level C w/AED (required)
