Full job description
The After School Program provides a safe, welcoming, and culturally inclusive environment where children can learn, grow, and build positive relationships outside of school hours. The successful candidate will support children through engaging activities that promote healthy lifestyles, cultural identity, learning, creativity, and overall well-being.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Plan and facilitate engaging after school activities for children aged 5–12 years.
- Provide a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment where every child feels welcomed and valued.
- Promote healthy physical activity, recreation, and active play.
- Support children's social, emotional, and behavioural development through positive guidance and relationship building.
- Assist children with homework and educational activities as appropriate.
- Prepare and provide healthy snacks.
- Incorporate Indigenous culture, traditions, language, and teachings into programming whenever possible.
- Foster children's self-esteem, confidence, and sense of belonging.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, schools, Elders, and community partners.
- Connect families with community resources and supports when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and program documentation.
- Ensure the program space is clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow all organizational policies, licensing requirements, and health and safety standards.
- Participate in staff meetings, training opportunities, and organizational events as required.
Qualifications:
- Early Childhood Educator, Early Childhood Educator Assistant, Child and Youth Care Worker, or equivalent education in a related human services field is considered an asset.
- Experience working with school-aged children.
- Knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and communities.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
- Ability to develop creative and engaging activities.
- Current First Aid with CPR-C.
- Criminal Record Check suitable for working with vulnerable children.
- Valid BC Driver's Licence is considered an asset.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:

- The ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- A commitment to cultural safety, inclusion, and community engagement.
