Academic Advisor and Resource Teacher
Sherwood Heights School is seeking a dedicated, organized, and student-focused educator to join our team as an Academic Advisor and Resource Teacher. This multifaceted role supports the overall success of our elementary division by combining instructional, resource, and administrative responsibilities. The successful candidate will teach coding and financial literacy to upper elementary students, provide targeted academic support to students across all elementary grades, and assist with a range of school operations including scheduling, event planning, communications, and coordination of student services. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong instructional skills, flexibility, and a commitment to fostering a supportive and well-managed learning environment for both students, parents, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Instruction and Student Support

  • Deliver engaging, age-appropriate instruction in coding and financial literacy to upper elementary students.
  • Provide targeted support to students across all elementary grades as a resource teacher, helping to build foundational skills in literacy, numeracy, and organization.
  • Collaborate with teachers to implement differentiated instruction strategies and monitor student progress.
  • Support academic planning by assisting with report cards, assessments, and learning documentation.
  • Serve as a supply teacher when needed to maintain continuity in classroom instruction.

Administrative and Operational Support

  • Assist in managing daily school operations, including attendance tracking, student supervision, and dismissal coordination.
  • Support the organization and execution of school events such as concerts, competitions, graduation ceremonies, and other community activities.
  • Coordinate logistics for student services including field trips, in-school programmes, and co-curricular activities.
  • Assist with school communications, including newsletters, announcements, and parent correspondence.
  • Maintain accurate student records and help ensure adherence to school policies and procedures.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Act as a liaison between students, teachers, and families to support student well-being and academic development.
  • Provide regular updates to families regarding student progress, resources, and support strategies.
  • Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and school planning sessions to contribute to a collaborative educational environment.

Student Engagement and Well-Being

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom and school culture.
  • Identify students in need of additional academic or social-emotional support and help implement appropriate interventions.
  • Promote the development of independent work habits, confidence, and resilience in students.

Additional Duties

  • Assist in the planning of student recognition initiatives, school photography, and yearbook contributions.
  • Support summer preparation activities, including classroom setup, schedules, and resource planning.
  • Contribute to school-wide initiatives related to student success, compliance, and curriculum implementation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
  • Experience teaching and supporting elementary students, particularly in upper elementary grades.
  • Familiarity with teaching foundational coding and financial literacy to young learners.
  • Strong organizational, instructional, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative, student-focused team.
  • Flexible, proactive, and committed to student success.

Compensation
