Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLP-A) / Communication Disorders Assistant (CDA)

Halton Hills Academy

Halton Hills Academy ( a sister company of Turning Point Children's Therapy & Development Centre) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLP-A) / Communication Disorders Assistant (CDA) to join our pediatric therapy team. Working under the clinical supervision of a registered Speech-Language Pathologist, the successful candidate will support children in developing speech, language, and communication skills through individualized, evidence-informed interventions.

This role offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment supporting children with diverse communication and developmental needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide communication intervention to children with speech, language, and communication challenges as directed by the supervising SLP.
  • Implement individualized therapy plans, strategies, and protocols developed by the SLP.
  • Support development of speech, language, social communication, and functional communication skills through engaging activities.
  • Apply language facilitation strategies, including Gestalt Language Processing (GLP), visual supports, and communication techniques recommended by the SLP.
  • Assist with programming, implementation, and troubleshooting of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems.
  • Maintain accurate therapy notes, documentation, and data collection according to clinical standards.
  • Share observations and progress updates with the supervising SLP.
  • Collaborate with families, educators, and interdisciplinary team members to support communication goals across environments.
  • Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with PHIPA and organizational policies.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or degree in Communication Disorders Assistant (CDA) or an equivalent recognized program.
  • Experience working with children with speech, language, developmental, or communication needs.
  • Experience supporting school-aged children with articulation and fluency disorders is an asset.
  • Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and developmental delays is preferred.
  • Knowledge of AAC systems and Gestalt Language Processing (GLP) is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
