The Climate and Environment department is responsible for executing YVR’s Environmental Sustainability Plan, including increasing waste diversion, reducing our carbon emissions, , protecting the ecosystem on Sea Island and respecting archaeological and heritage sites. We also execute YVR’s Noise Management Plan, balancing the need for safe, convenient 24-hour travel with enjoyable urban living.

Position Overview

We have a full-time term (until May 2027), opportunity for a Senior Environmental Specialist in the Climate and Environment Department. Reporting to the Manager, Climate & Environment, the successful candidate will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team who is passionate about creating environmental change and is looking for an opportunity to work on interesting and varied environmental projects.

Key responsibilities include:

The successful candidate will use a unique combination of exceptional people skills and analytical ability to take the lead and contribute to program areas including, but not limited to:

  • Waste management
  • Environmental training and awareness
  • Water conservation & reduction strategies
  • Sustainability

The successful candidate will develop and implement programs, as well as, manage budgets, projects and consultants. They will also monitor, evaluate, improve and communicate the programs goals and results, all while working with airport employees, partners and representatives from our communities.

Key qualifications include:

  • 7 to 10 years of experience working within a similar environmental context at a senior level, supplemented by a University degree (Master’s preferred) in Science, Environmental Studies, Engineering or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Professional designation in an environmental field (such as RP.Bio, P.Eng, P.Geo, P.Ag or MCIP/RPP)
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Sound judgment with the ability to make timely, informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, provincial, and local environmental legislation.
  • Proven experience delivering projects on time and on budget, including managing consultants and liaising with industry, government officials, and the public.
  • Advanced computer skills.

Although not required, French language skills are an asset as we are committed to providing bilingual services to our visitors and passengers. This helps us meet federal language obligations while ensuring a welcoming experience. Candidates who do not speak French are still strongly encouraged to apply.

Salary Range :
$102,693 to $134,213 per annum, based on 37.5-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications and internal equity.
