Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced health and safety professional to join our team in a leadership development role. Working alongside the Health & Safety Team, you will support and strengthen our company-wide health and safety program while gaining a deep understanding of our operations, people, and culture.

The successful candidate will work closely with operations, supervisors, and employees to promote a positive safety culture, support regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement across our organization.

Our goal is to develop the successful candidate into the future Health & Safety Manager role as they demonstrate the leadership, technical knowledge, and understanding of our business needed to lead the department.

What You'll Do

Field Leadership

  • Build positive working relationships with employees, supervisors, managers, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Coach and support supervisors and managers in developing strong safety leadership within their teams.
  • Split time in the field and office supporting crews across all divisions.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, safety observations, and hazard assessments while working collaboratively with operations to implement practical solutions.
  • Promote a proactive, positive, and engaging safety culture throughout the organization.

Health & Safety Program

  • Maintain and continuously improve the company's Health & Safety Program.
  • Support COR Programs, internal audits, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead or assist with workplace incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Develop and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and training materials.

Training & Administration

  • Deliver employee orientations, safety training, toolbox talks, and support Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees.
  • Assist with WorkSafeBC claims management and return-to-work planning.
  • Maintain safety records, performance metrics, and documentation using digital systems including Salus and Microsoft 365.
  • Support company-wide safety initiatives and contribute to the continuous improvement of our health and safety program.

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years relevant occupational health and safety experience, preferably within construction, heavy civil, industrial, manufacturing, or a related industry.
  • Working knowledge of the BC Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with employees, supervisors, managers, and clients.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and willingness to routinely travel throughout Vancouver Island.

Preferred

  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation or actively working toward certification.
  • Diploma, certificate, or post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field.
  • COR Auditor certification or experience supporting COR audits.
  • Experience with WorkSafeBC claims management and return-to-work programs.
  • Experience conducting workplace incident investigations.
  • Experience developing and delivering health and safety training.
  • Experience using digital health and safety management systems.
