About the role

We are looking for an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) to join the maintenance team at our modern aluminum smelter. In this role, you will install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair critical production equipment to support safe, reliable operations across the Carbon Department facilities.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced tradesperson looking to work across a diverse range of equipment, including conveyors, overhead cranes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, casting equipment, rotating machinery and automated material handling systems. You'll apply your technical expertise to improve equipment reliability while continuing to build your troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will:

• Work safely in accordance with Rio Tinto safety standards, procedures and isolation requirements.
• Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair fixed plant and rotating equipment to support reliable operations.
• Coordinate maintenance activities with operational stakeholders, including preparing parts lists and sourcing required materials.
• Diagnose equipment failures and complete corrective and preventative maintenance activities.
• Use power tools, hand tools and rigging equipment, including performing work at heights where required.
• Maintain a safe, clean and well-organized work environment and address hazards proactively.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that improve equipment reliability, safety and efficiency.
• Collaborate effectively with team members, contractors and stakeholders to achieve maintenance objectives.

Required for Success

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
• Interprovincial Red Seal Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Certificate of Qualification.
• Valid Driver's Licence (minimum BC Class 7N or equivalent provincial licence).
• Demonstrated experience maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing fixed plant equipment in mining, smelting, manufacturing, processing or other heavy industrial environments.
• Ability to read, interpret and work from technical drawings, schematics and equipment documentation.
• Experience safely performing rigging activities on equipment such as wire rope, chokers, synthetic slings, cable clamps, hooks, shackles, and other rigging apparatus.
• Must possess demonstrable mechanical aptitude.

Helpful for Success

• Experience maintaining conveyors, overhead cranes, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems or rotating equipment.
• Experience using preventative maintenance and work management systems.
• Experience supporting continuous improvement and equipment reliability initiatives.
• Skilled at fabricating, repairing equipment and welding industrial equipment
