Position Summary
Overlander Mountain Lodge is seeking a dedicated Sous Chef to join our culinary team. Based at our picturesque lodge near Jasper National Park, this role offers an exciting opportunity to manage food services, oversee kitchen operations, and deliver exceptional guest experiences in the stunning Canadian Rockies. The ideal candidate combines hands-on culinary expertise with operational leadership and thrives in a fast-paced, high-standard resort environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily kitchen operations, ensuring the highest standards of quality, presentation, and service.
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise kitchen, fostering a collaborative, motivated team environment.
  • Assist the Head Chef in menu planning, including innovative breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special event offerings that highlight local and seasonal ingredients.
  • Manage inventory, control costs, and ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Coordinate catering for weddings, retreats, banquets, and other special functions hosted at the lodge.
  • Maintain a welcoming atmosphere that emphasizes guest satisfaction and hospitality excellence.
  • Implement training programs to enhance staff skills, culinary knowledge, and service quality.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless service delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Step in to support all culinary stations as needed, ensuring smooth operations during peak periods.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in sous chef or kitchen management roles in hospitality or resort settings.
  • Extensive background in culinary arts, banquet and fine dining operations, and team supervision.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with experience managing and mentoring staff.
  • Knowledge of inventory control, cost management, and food safety standards.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Seasonal resort or destination dining experience considered an asset.
