Full job description

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Cook. This role is ideal for someone with experience working in food service and enjoys working with children and famillies. Candidates should have a strong commitment to food safety and commitment to quality and cleanliness.

Responsibilities

  • Serve children all meals and snacks efficiently, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere
  • Prepare and assemble food items according to established recipes and standards
  • Cooking and food preparation tasks to ensure timely meal and snack times
  • Prepare alternative meal options for children with food restrictions and allergies avoiding any risk of cross-contamination
  • Handle food safely by following proper hygiene and sanitation procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness of workstations, kitchen, kitchen equipment and trolleys
  • Follow all safety guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with health regulations, Ministry of Education and Durham Region Operating Criteria
  • Support team members during down time in classrooms, completing laundry and/or additional coverage in classrooms.
  • Maintain high standards of food quality and customer service
  • Previous experience in food service, restaurant, or kitchen environments preferred
  • Previous experience working in licensed childcare an asset
  • Knowledge of food handling, safety protocols, and meal preparation techniques
  • Familiarity with the food industry standards for cleanliness and safety
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to serve customers professionally
  • Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced settings while maintaining attention to detail
  • Experience with food preparation, cooking, and food safety practices is highly desirable
