Full job description

  • Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Cleaner

We are hiring Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Cleaners for night work in Edmonton and surrounding areas.

This is hard, dirty, hands-on physical work. This is not a light-duty cleaning position.

Our crews clean commercial kitchen exhaust systems in restaurants and other facilities. The work involves grease, water, pressure washing, ladders, rooftops, kitchen equipment, and physically demanding work throughout the shift.

We will train the right person in kitchen exhaust cleaning, but we are looking for someone who already knows what it means to work hard and show up consistently.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Pressure washing commercial kitchen exhaust systems
  • Scraping and removing heavy grease buildup
  • Cleaning exhaust hoods, ductwork, filters, and fans
  • Working around commercial kitchen equipment
  • Climbing ladders and accessing rooftops
  • Working in tight, wet, and greasy areas
  • Setting up and taking down cleaning equipment
  • Protecting customer property and equipment while working
  • Working safely as part of a crew
  • Staying until the job is completed

What We Are Looking For

You do not need previous kitchen exhaust cleaning experience. We will provide training.

You do need previous experience with hard physical work.

Experience in construction, oilfield, industrial cleaning, pressure washing, restoration, roofing, general labour, or similar physical work would be an asset.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Shows up on time and ready to work
  • Can reliably work full night shifts when needed
  • Works hard throughout the entire shift
  • Takes pride in doing the job properly
  • Follows instructions and works safely
  • Pays attention to what is happening around them
  • Speaks up when there is a problem
  • Takes responsibility for mistakes and helps correct them
  • Can work independently once properly trained
  • Wants steady, long-term employment

We are looking for dependable people with a good attitude who take ownership of their work and communicate problems instead of ignoring them.

Opportunity to Advance

We are looking for more than someone who can simply do physical labour.

For the right person, there is an opportunity to take on greater responsibility and potentially advance into a crew leadership role.

Previous leadership experience is not required.

What matters is demonstrating reliability, initiative, accountability, good judgment, quality workmanship, and the ability to work well with others.

If you prove yourself, we are willing to invest the time to train you properly and give you greater responsibility.

Schedule and Hours

Start times vary because we work around each customer’s operating hours. Many shifts are at night, but a shift could start at 3:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., 9:00 p.m., or 1:00 a.m.

One job each spring requires four or five days of shifts starting at 4:00 a.m. and finishing around 11:00 a.m. or noon.

You must be able to work changing start times and stay until the crew’s job is completed.

Employees can typically expect to work approximately 25–40 hours per week, depending on the workload.

Pay

$30.00 per hour

Overtime is paid when required.

Paydays are the 5th and 20th of each month. The payroll cutoff on the 15th is paid on the 20th; the cutoff on the last day of the month is paid on the 5th of the following month.

Health/Medical Benefit

After 3 months of employment, we provide a $500-per-year Health/Medical Fund to help with eligible out-of-pocket health expenses for you and your immediate family.

This can help with expenses such as:

  • Prescriptions
  • Dental
  • Eyewear
  • Physiotherapy
  • Other eligible health-related expenses

Requirements

  • Valid driver's licence
  • Reliable transportation
  • Black steel-toed, non-slip safety footwear
  • Minimum 1 year of physical labour experience
  • Ability to reliably work night shifts
  • Comfortable working on ladders and rooftops
  • Physically capable of demanding work throughout the shift
  • Able to obtain any security clearance required for customer sites after being hired

This Job May Be Right for You If:

  • You want steady, long-term work.
  • You don't mind getting dirty.
  • You take pride in doing difficult work properly.
  • You want to learn a specialized trade.
  • You want an opportunity to take on more responsibility.
  • You are someone your employer and coworkers can depend on.

This Job Is NOT for You If:

  • You avoid hard physical work
  • You don't like getting dirty
  • You cannot reliably work nights
  • You are uncomfortable with ladders or rooftops
  • You have difficulty showing up consistently
  • You regularly leave jobs after a short period
  • You hide mistakes instead of taking responsibility for them
  • You expect to leave before the crew's work is finished

We are looking for people who show up, work hard, take responsibility, and stay until the job is done.
