Hospitality Service Director

Victoria, BC | Private School

Are you a passionate food service leader who thrives in a high-volume, hospitality-driven environment? We are seeking an experienced Hospitality Service Director to oversee all dining operations at a prestigious private school in Victoria, BC.

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on leader who is committed to delivering exceptional dining experiences for students, staff, parents, and guests while building strong client relationships and leading a high-performing team.

About the Role

The Food Service Director will provide overall leadership and management of the school's food service program, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week. The successful candidate will oversee daily operations, financial performance, menu planning, staffing, food safety, and client engagement.

In addition to the core dining program, the Food Service Director will lead summer catering operations and support 5-6 key special events throughout the school year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of the food service operation, ensuring exceptional quality, service, and hospitality.
  • Manage a high-volume dining program serving students, faculty, staff, and guests.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication and proactive engagement.
  • Create innovative and nutritious menus that meet the needs of the school community.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and cost control initiatives.
  • Manage food, labour, and operating costs while delivering financial targets.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and develop a diverse team of culinary and service professionals.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, health, and workplace safety standards.
  • Coordinate catering services during the summer months and oversee special events throughout the school year.
  • Maintain high standards of presentation, cleanliness, and operational excellence.
  • Analyze business performance and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain detailed operational records and ensure accuracy in reporting and administration.

QualificationsRequired Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in food service management.
  • Proven experience managing high-volume food service operations.
  • Strong catering and event management experience.
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining client relationships.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and profit-and-loss management.
  • Experience with menu planning and food cost management.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and food service management systems.

Preferred

  • Post-secondary education in Hospitality, Culinary Management, Business, or a related field.
  • Food Safe Certification.
  • Experience in educational, campus, boarding school, hospitality, or catering environments.
