Location: Den 1880 - 14 Erb St. West, Uptown Waterloo, ON
Position Type: Casual / Event-Based
Pay: Hourly + gratuities
Availability Required: Evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays

About Den 1880

At Den 1880, we've reimagined what a workspace can be. Located in the heart of Uptown Waterloo, we're a premium coworking and event venue where people come to work, connect, and celebrate. From busy weekday coworking to evening networking events, weddings, and private celebrations, no two days are ever the same.

We're looking for professional, personable, and dependable team members who help create exceptional guest experiences while keeping our space safe and welcoming.

Position Overview

As an Event Staff team member, you'll help bring events to life from setup through teardown, playing a hands-on role in creating exceptional experiences for our guests. This role combines venue operations, bar service, and guest hospitality, so no two shifts are ever the same. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, personable, and takes pride in delivering excellent service while maintaining Den 1880's high standards for hospitality, safety, and presentation.

Key Responsibilities

Event Setup & Bar Service

  • Assist with venue setup according to event floor plans, including arranging furniture and preparing signage, menus, décor, and event materials.
  • Prepare and stock bars and beverage stations — alcohol, mixers, glassware, ice, and garnishes.
  • Provide friendly, professional bar service for open, host, and cash bars, including processing purchases and cash transactions when required.
  • Maintain accurate beverage counts and keep bar areas clean, stocked, and organized throughout events.

Guest Experience & Safety

  • Deliver exceptional service to clients, guests, vendors, and members while creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Monitor guest behaviour, sobriety, and venue safety; intervene appropriately and escalate concerns when necessary, in compliance with AGCO regulations and Smart Serve standards.
  • Complete incident reports for injuries, guest concerns, or service issues, and uphold Den 1880's Code of Conduct.
  • Support the event manager throughout the event and stay aware of timelines to help ensure everything runs smoothly.

Cleanup & Venue Reset

  • Collect and clear glassware, dishes, rentals, and event materials; wash, polish, and store properly.
  • Return furniture and equipment to storage, dispose of waste and recycling, and complete end-of-event resets.
  • Assist with inventory counts and restocking.
  • Leave the venue clean, organized, and ready for the next day.

Qualifications

  • Valid Smart Serve Certification (required).
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Previous experience in hospitality, bartending, events, restaurants, or customer service is considered an asset but not required.
  • Comfortable working evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; calm and professional in fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to lift and move event equipment, furniture, and beverage inventory.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys taking care of people and takes pride in creating memorable experiences. You're proactive, dependable, and team-oriented, with the confidence to take ownership of your work and adapt to the unique needs of each event. You notice what needs to be done, step in without being asked, and are always looking for ways to support your team and deliver an exceptional experience for every guest.

Why Join Den 1880?

  • Flexible event-based scheduling
  • Complimentary coworking and gym membership
  • Gain experience across hospitality, venue operations, and events
  • Work in one of Waterloo Region's most unique event venues alongside a collaborative, supportive team
  • Opportunities to grow with a team that values initiative, hospitality, and exceptional service.

If you're someone who loves creating memorable experiences, enjoys working in a fast-paced hospitality environment, and takes pride in delivering exceptional service, we'd love to hear from you.
