Full job description

General Manager – Full-Service Hotel

Location: Metro Vancouver, British Columbia

We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, and results-oriented General Manager to lead the operations of a full-service hotel in Metro Vancouver. This executive leadership position is responsible for the overall success of the hotel by driving operational excellence, financial performance, guest satisfaction, employee engagement, and revenue growth.

The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader with a proven track record in hotel operations, revenue management, sales leadership, and team development. This position reports directly to the Regional Operations Manager and is responsible for delivering strong business results while ensuring the hotel achieves its operational and financial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for all hotel departments.
  • Ensure exceptional guest experiences by maintaining the highest standards of hospitality and service.
  • Lead daily hotel operations while promoting a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular property inspections and detailed walk-throughs to ensure guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, kitchens, back-of-house areas, and hotel grounds are maintained to the highest standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, operating procedures, and service standards.

Financial & Business Performance

  • Assume full responsibility for the hotel's financial performance, including revenue, profitability, cost control, and overall business results.
  • Develop and execute strategies to maximize revenue, improve profitability, and increase market share.
  • Monitor financial reports, budgets, forecasts, payroll, expenses, and departmental performance.
  • Ensure achievement of daily, weekly, monthly, and annual financial objectives.

Sales & Revenue Management

  • Lead the hotel's sales and revenue strategy in collaboration with the Sales and Revenue Management teams.
  • Ensure proactive sales initiatives are implemented to achieve budgeted room and food & beverage revenues.
  • Develop pricing and revenue strategies that strengthen the hotel's competitive position within the local market.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and demand patterns to maximize revenue opportunities.

Human Resources & Team Development

  • Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing leadership team.
  • Foster a positive workplace culture focused on employee engagement, accountability, and professional development.
  • Ensure all employees receive appropriate training and consistently perform to company standards.
  • Oversee recruitment, performance management, succession planning, coaching, and employee relations.

Guest Experience

  • Champion a guest-focused culture that consistently exceeds guest expectations.
  • Monitor guest satisfaction metrics and implement continuous service improvements.
  • Resolve guest concerns promptly and professionally.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable legal, employment, health and safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for guests and employees.
  • Verify compliance with operational policies, risk management procedures, and company standards.

Reporting & Communication

  • Report directly to the Regional Operations Manager.
  • Provide regular operational, financial, and performance updates.
  • Participate in weekly business review meetings to discuss hotel performance, key initiatives, forecasts, and operational priorities.
  • Develop and execute action plans to achieve strategic and financial goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (4-year university degree) in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Hotel & Restaurant Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5–10 years of progressive hotel leadership experience, including experience as a General Manager or senior executive in a full-service hotel.
  • Strong background in hotel operations, revenue management, food and beverage operations, sales, budgeting, and financial management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large, multi-department teams and build a positive, high-performance culture.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong business acumen with a proven ability to drive profitability while delivering exceptional guest experiences.
  • Proficiency with hotel property management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and as operationally required.
