THE OPPORTUNITY:

Pheasant Glen Golf Resort is launching an exciting new restaurant concept within the Clubhouse, Coyote Bills & The Dutton Chop House, and is looking for an experienced Intermediate Accountant with experience in the hospitality industry who will be the primary general accountant for the hospitality division.

The new Clubhouse is the vibrant heart of Pheasant Glen Golf Resort, housing Coyote Bills & The Dutton Chop House offering a welcoming space for visitors to Pheasant Glen and the members to relax and connect, enjoy drinks on the expansive decks, or celebrate a special event.

With a fresh era beginning, this new position will provide an opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic professional individual to join the accounting team and support the hospitality operations of Pheasant Glen Golf Resort.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Intermediate Accountant (Hospitality Focus) will be a key role within the accounting team, whose primary functions are to support full-cycle accounting, all daily and monthly operational accounting processes, and the payroll & benefits administration for the company.

The Intermediate Accountant will be responsible for accurately processing, recording and maintaining all daily financial transactions and journal entries related to Coyote Bills & The Dutton, from the Point of Sales system to Sage accounting software including vendor invoicing, inventory data, sales and expenses.

The position ensures payroll compliance with federal and provincial legislation, maintains employee records, administers benefits, tips & gratuities management, and will support administrative tasks related to recruitment and onboarding of employees.

The role requires exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational and analytical skills. The incumbent must be comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and will possess a demonstrated understanding of the importance of confidentiality, exemplifying the highest level of business conduct and personal ethics.

Pheasant Glen Golf Resort is looking for the ideal candidate as an addition to their growing team in this exciting new project.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review, code and post journal entries and reconcile accounts, including third party vendors such as Skip, Door Dash, Uber Eats payment and commissions.
  • Process and reconcile credit card payments including investigating chargebacks.
  • Enter journal entries pertaining to F&B operations.
  • Process accruals, gift cards and prepaid accounts and related transactions.
  • Reconcile daily sales data reviewing taxes, tips, discounts, comps, refunds, and gift-card activity correctly.
  • Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable processes to ensure timely billing and payments to vendors.
  • Cash handling including processing daily/weekly bank deposits.
  • Complete Bank Reconciliations and investigate/resolve outstanding items.
  • Assist with PST, GST and WorkSafeBC and any other tax remittances as required by provincial and federal legislation.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly financial reports for management related to sales, inventories, balance sheets and cash flow.
  • Assist the management team with budgeting and forecasting.
  • Provide reports related to labour costs, costs of sales and capital projects as needed.
  • Prepare and assist in the completion of year-end working papers to support corporate tax fillings.
  • Contribute to the year-end external financial audit process.
  • Responsible for processing and posting of full cycle payroll accounting entries into the ERP.
  • Maintain all payroll records and employee information in the payroll system.
  • Process payroll documentation related to new hires, terminations (Records of Employment), leaves of absence, etc.
  • Reconcile payroll reports and general ledgers with accounting records.
  • Coordinate year-end payroll activities including T4 preparation, distribution and reconciliations.
  • Maintain the company payroll systems to ensure compliance with all provincial and federal payroll legislation.
  • Track, calculate, and distribute daily or weekly direct (cash) and controlled (electronic) tip-outs according to company policy.
  • Maintain accurate records of electronic tips through the POS and accounting system to meet all legislative requirements & guidelines, specifically, the Employment Standards Act (ESA) and Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
  • Ensure documentation in employee personal files, both electronic and paper, are complete, up to date and accurate and meets PIPEDA legislation.
  • Supporting the General Manager and other key management leaders by managing the administration of employee records related to staff vacations and other leaves.
  • Provide support and clarification to employees and management related to payroll, such as vacation or gratuities payments.
  • Coordinate onboarding activities including new employment documentation, employee manual and company policy distribution, and orientation scheduling.
  • Assist with recruitment activities, including drafting employment letters.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

As an Intermediate Accountant, you have:

o Minimum 2 to 4 years of hands-on, full-cycle accounting and payroll experience with direct experience in restaurant, hotel, resort or other tourism/hospitality operations.

o Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration preferred.

o Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certificate an asset.

o Proficient with restaurant POS systems (Squirrel) and payroll software.

o Knowledge of labour and employment standards regarding tip and gratuities regulations.

o Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, payroll procedures and processes.

o Strong Microsoft Excel and Office suite skills, with solid proficiency in Excel functions to compare, analyze and manage data.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
  • Ability to recognize and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated time management, organizational and analytical skills; ability to organize and prioritize a wide range of tasks efficiently.
  • Consistent display of professional, respectful team service approach; ability to respond to all work activities with active listening, diplomacy, discretion, and tact.
  • Experience in working in hospitality an asset.
  • A reputation for uncompromising professional integrity, personal values, and character in an inclusive, diverse work environment.

Must be eligible to work in Canada.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

  • Base salary $65,000 - $80,000 per year. Wage offered is determined by multiple factors, including job-related skills and relevant education/experience.
  • Benefits package – after first three months of employment
  • Annual Vacation – 3 weeks (15 workdays)
