Position Purpose:

Reporting to the Kitchen Manager, the Food Expeditor (Expeditor) plays a crucial role in ensuring a smooth workflow between the culinary and operations teams and the loading of the Catering Services Vans for Catering Deliveries. They have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment to get proper catering orders out faster and more efficiently.

The Expeditor has the ability to be in constant motion and has the skills to coordinate and organize processes to get the correct meals for the catering order onto the vans quickly enhancing Chef Ric’s quality and reputation.

Major Responsibilities

Prepare all paper products for external catering orders

• Prepare Inventory requests for recurring service contracts
• Organize the day’s catering orders to ensure a smooth service period
• Laisse with the culinary and operations teams to ensure catering orders are complete and ready on time to be loaded for delivery
• Support the culinary team by facilitating the load-out process
• Support the operations team by preparing CAMBRO hot boxes, catering equipment and paper products for deliveries
• Maintain an atmosphere of courtesy and respect towards clients, staff, volunteers and FSTP participants
• Assist Lead Shipper/Receiver to ensure all paper products needed are ordered
• Assist the Culinary team with cooking as time permits
• Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures
• Adhere to all Health and Safety requirements
• Other duties as required or assigned by management

Other Requirements

Education

• College Diploma in Culinary field or equivalent (6000hrs)
• Train the trainer or other training courses considered an asset

Experience

• Minimum of one year’s experience as an Expeditor / Cook

Qualifications

• Must possess basic mathematical skills to understand recipes, measurements, requisition amounts and portion sizes
• Proven ability to demonstrate culinary techniques, i.e. cutting, cooking principles, safety and sanitation
• HACCP, WHMIS and City of Ottawa Food Handlers Certification essential
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Ability to multi-task
• Ability to work in a very fast paced environment
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Must be a self-starter with a sense of urgency
• Must be able to work with minimal supervision
• Flexibility in work hours, including early mornings
• Bilingualism (English/French) considered an asset

Working Conditions

• High degree of physical activity involving: walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, bending, lifting, driving
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to work flexible hours and schedule, weekends and holidays may be required, as well as mornings and evening
• Overtime as required
• Must be comfortable working in a very fast paced and challenging environment
