Full job description

In 1985, Ed McNally founded Big Rock Brewery Inc. (“Big Rock”) to contest the time's beer trends. Three bold, European-inspired offerings forged an industry at a time heavy on easy drinking lagers and light on flavour. Today, our extensive portfolio of signature beers, ongoing seasonal offerings, ciders (Rock Creek Cider® series) and custom-crafted private label products keep us at the forefront of the craft beer revolution and still proudly contesting the beer trends of today.

Summary

At Big Rock Brewery, we believe great beer is built on great people—and the right technology helps bring it all together. We're looking for an experienced IT Manager to lead our technology operations, keeping our systems secure, reliable, and running as smoothly as a perfectly poured pint. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll balance strategic planning with leaders and day-to-day problem-solving, supporting a Microsoft-based environment that includes Microsoft 365, SAP Business One (ERP), and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). If you enjoy building smart solutions, supporting great teams, and don't mind working in a brewery where beer is part of the culture, we'd love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

IT Leadership & Strategy

  • Own the company's overall IT strategy, roadmap, and budget, aligning technology investments with business goals.

  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement new technologies, tools, and vendors to improve efficiency, security, and scalability.

  • Manage relationships with external vendors, managed service providers, and consultants (hardware, software, telecom, and internet service providers).

  • Develop and maintain IT policies, procedures, and documentation, including security, acceptable use, and disaster recovery.

Infrastructure & Systems Administration

  • Administer and maintain the Microsoft 365 environment, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Entra ID (Azure AD), and OneDrive.

  • Manage on-premises and cloud infrastructure, including servers, networking (LAN/WAN, VPN, firewalls), and Wi-Fi.

  • Oversee backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning and testing.

  • Maintain and monitor the SQL Server environment supporting the CRM and enterprise reporting, ensuring performance, availability, security, and data integrity.

Data, Reporting & Business Intelligence

  • Partner with and provide backup support to the Database Administrator/Reporting Analyst on the Microsoft SQL Server environment supporting the custom-built CRM, including database maintenance, performance tuning, backups, and security.

  • Provide day-to-day IT oversight of the SQL Server environment, including patching, infrastructure, and access/security, while the DBA/Reporting Analyst owns database and report development.

  • Support the CRM from a technical perspective, coordinating with developers and vendors on updates, bug fixes, integrations, and enhancements.

  • Collaborate with the DBA/Reporting Analyst to support the ongoing evolution and modernization of the organization's reporting environment while providing backup support for reporting operations as needed.

  • Help manage the Power BI environment, including workspace and access governance, gateway configuration, and general troubleshooting.

  • Partner with Finance, Sales, Operations, and other departments to gather reporting requirements and coordinate appropriate reporting solutions.

ERP Support (SAP Business One)

  • Serve as the primary internal owner and administrator of SAP Business One, coordinating with implementation partners on upgrades, patches, customizations, and integrations.

  • Support user account management, permissions, and basic troubleshooting within SAP Business One.

  • Partner with business stakeholders to support reporting requirements and coordinate report development with internal or external resources.

Security & Compliance

  • Manage the organization's cybersecurity posture, including endpoint protection, patch management, email security, multi-factor authentication, and user access controls.

  • Lead security awareness initiatives and phishing simulation/training programs.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable data protection and industry regulations.

  • Manage the response to security incidents, outages, and other technology-related disruptions.

Team & Vendor Management

  • Lead and support IT team members while coordinating with outsourced IT service providers when required.

  • Partner closely with the Database Administrator/Reporting Analyst to align infrastructure, security, and technology priorities.

  • Prioritize and manage the IT support queue to ensure timely resolution of employee requests.

  • Oversee employee onboarding and offboarding from an IT perspective, including accounts, hardware, and system access.

End-User Support

  • Provide escalation-level technical support for hardware, software, and network issues.

  • Manage the procurement, deployment, and lifecycle of laptops, desktops, mobile devices, printers, and other IT equipment.

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 8+ years of progressive IT experience, including 4+ years in an IT management or lead role, ideally within an SMB environment.

  • Relevant certifications: Microsoft 365 Certified (Administrator Expert), Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, ITIL Foundation, or similar.

  • Strong hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, Entra ID/Azure AD, SharePoint, Teams).

  • Experience supporting or administering SAP Business One or a comparable mid-market ERP system.

  • Working knowledge of SQL Server and SSRS (report deployment, subscriptions, basic query/troubleshooting skills).

  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VPN, firewalls, Wi-Fi).

  • Experience with backup/DR solutions and cybersecurity best practices (endpoint protection, MFA, patch management).

  • Some after-hours or weekend work may be necessary to support system upgrades, maintenance windows, or critical business operations.

  • Occasional travel between company locations or to vendor sites may be required.
