Reports To: CEO
Compensation: $155,000–$200,000 annually, depending on experience
Team Leadership: 35+ employees across multiple operational departments
Employment: Full-Time | Senior Leadership
WHO WE ARE
Legends Haul is a rapidly evolving food manufacturing and distribution company based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Founded in 2018, we've built our business around exceptional food, strong relationships, and a commitment to doing things differently. Serving over 1,400 customers across British Columbia, we partner with some of the country's leading restaurants, retailers, and food brands.
Our business combines premium meat and seafood distribution, in-house food manufacturing, and the development of innovative consumer food brands. Operating from our approximately 45,000-square-foot Vancouver facility, we manage a complex, temperature-controlled supply chain that connects procurement, manufacturing, inventory, warehousing, and transportation. As we enter our next phase of growth, we are looking for an exceptional operational leader who can help us build a more efficient, accountable, and scalable business.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking an experienced VP of Operations to lead the day-to-day execution and long-term development of our operational business. Reporting directly to the CEO and serving as a key member of our Senior Leadership Team, this individual will have overall responsibility for manufacturing, inventory management, receiving, warehousing, order fulfillment, and transportation.
This is a highly involved leadership role requiring a combination of operational expertise, financial discipline, people leadership, and practical problem-solving. The successful candidate will be expected to establish strong operating standards, develop leaders, improve productivity, and ensure the seamless movement of products through our business. Above all, we need a leader who takes ownership, builds accountability, and delivers results.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Operational Leadership & Execution
- Provide overall leadership and accountability for daily operations across manufacturing, warehousing, inventory, receiving, and transportation.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of 35+ employees, including departmental managers, supervisors, and frontline team members.
- Establish clear operational KPIs, departmental expectations, and performance management processes.
- Develop scalable systems, standard operating procedures, and operational workflows.
- Drive continuous improvement in productivity, labour efficiency, cost control, and service performance.
- Lead operational planning, capacity management, and execution against company growth objectives.
2. Inventory Management & Control
- Take ownership of inventory accuracy, integrity, movement, and accountability throughout the operation.
- Oversee receiving, put-away, stock rotation, replenishment, picking, and inventory adjustments.
- Establish disciplined FIFO/FEFO processes, cycle counting, and inventory reconciliation procedures.
- Work closely with Procurement and Finance to manage inventory levels, aging stock, shrinkage, and working capital.
- Improve inventory visibility, traceability, and warehouse management system utilization.
- Ensure inventory discrepancies are identified, investigated, and resolved with clear ownership.
3. Manufacturing & Production
- Oversee daily manufacturing operations, including meat cutting, grinding, burger and sausage production, and other value-added food manufacturing processes.
- Drive production planning, scheduling, labour utilization, yield management, and equipment efficiency.
- Establish and monitor manufacturing performance metrics, including throughput, waste, yield, downtime, and cost per kilogram.
- Partner with Food Safety & Quality Assurance to maintain strong food safety practices, regulatory compliance, and product integrity.
- Support new equipment integration, process improvements, and manufacturing capacity expansion.
- Collaborate with Product Development, Sales, and Procurement to support new product commercialization and production readiness.
4. Warehouse, Receiving & Transportation
- Oversee all warehouse operations, including inbound receiving, storage, order selection, packing, staging, and shipping.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and efficient order fulfillment across multiple customer channels.
- Lead transportation planning, route optimization, fleet utilization, and delivery service performance.
- Manage third-party transportation partners, external storage providers, and related operational costs.
- Maintain strong cold-chain management, product handling standards, and facility organization.
- Drive improvements in warehouse productivity, order accuracy, on-time delivery, and customer service.
5. Financial & Cross-Functional Accountability
- Develop and manage operational budgets, staffing plans, and capital expenditure requirements.
- Partner with Finance to monitor operating expenses, labour productivity, manufacturing costs, and departmental performance.
- Work closely with Sales and Procurement to align customer demand, purchasing decisions, inventory availability, and operational capacity.
- Participate actively in Senior Leadership Team meetings, annual operating planning, and quarterly business reviews.
- Identify operational risks, remove bottlenecks, and lead cross-functional problem-solving.
- Support the CEO in developing and executing the company's operational growth strategy.
6. People, Safety & Culture
- Build a strong culture of ownership, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Develop capable departmental managers and supervisors with clear decision-making authority.
- Promote employee engagement, training, retention, and leadership development.
- Ensure safe working practices across manufacturing, warehousing, and transportation, including occupational health and safety and WorkSafeBC requirements.
- Model our belief that Culture Is Everything — Own It. Together.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Experience & Qualifications
- 8–12+ years of progressive operations leadership experience, ideally within food manufacturing, distribution, or a comparable supply chain environment.
- Significant experience managing multidisciplinary operational teams, preferably 30–50+ employees.
- Strong preference for experience in meat processing, and/or food processing and distribution
- Demonstrated knowledge of inventory control, warehouse management, manufacturing processes, and transportation operations.
- Experience managing operating budgets, labour costs, productivity metrics, and capital investments.
- Familiarity with ERP/WMS systems, inventory traceability, and operational reporting.
- Working knowledge of HACCP, SFCR, food safety systems, and occupational safety requirements.
- Experience with continuous improvement, process standardization, and operational scaling.
Leadership Attributes
- Hands-on, practical, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong financial and analytical understanding, with the ability to translate data into operational decisions.
- Confident, decisive, and accountable, with strong follow-through.
- Able to develop leaders while maintaining high operational standards.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Comfortable challenging existing processes and leading meaningful change.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to balance strategic thinking and daily execution.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Within the first 12 months, the VP of Operations will have:
- Established clear accountability and measurable performance standards across all operational departments.
- Improved inventory accuracy, stock rotation, and overall inventory discipline.
- Delivered measurable improvements in labour productivity, manufacturing yields, and operating cost efficiency.
- Strengthened receiving, warehouse execution, order accuracy, and delivery reliability.
- Developed a more capable, accountable, and aligned operational management team.
- Implemented consistent reporting and operating rhythms that support better decisions and faster problem resolution.
- Built a stronger operational foundation to support Legends Haul's next phase of growth.
