Full job description

Emergency Security Management (ESM) is currently seeking a Hospitality Risk Consultant in Vancouver B.C. and surrounding area.

Position Summary

The Risk Consultant supports a safe, secure, and welcoming environment across a range of hospitality settings. This role combines security awareness, risk mitigation, and guest-focused service to help protect people, property, and brand reputation. The Risk Consultant operates with professionalism and discretion, using proactive observation and strong interpersonal skills to prevent and manage incidents while preserving the overall guest experience.

The “Risk Consultant” title reflects a service-oriented, preventative approach to safety and security. The role may include functions traditionally associated with security personnel, adapted to align with hospitality standards and client expectations.

Salary: $27.50 per hour

Location: Vancouver BC and surrounding area

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a visible, professional presence to support a safe and welcoming environment
  • Monitor guest and staff activity to identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks
  • Apply situational awareness to anticipate and prevent issues before escalation
  • De-escalate conflicts through calm, respectful, and effective communication
  • Respond appropriately to incidents, including safety concerns, disturbances, or medical situations
  • Support and uphold venue policies, client standards, and applicable regulations
  • Adapt approach and communication style to suit different hospitality environments and clientele
  • Collaborate with management and staff to align on risk management strategies
  • Document incidents clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner
  • Liaise with emergency services or external partners when necessary
  • Conduct routine walkthroughs of public and operational areas, identifying potential vulnerabilities
  • Assist with opening/closing procedures and transitions during peak or high-risk periods
