Please do not apply unless you have a minimum of 5 years of experience estimating and selling residential renovation or new construction projects.

Basement Builders is seeking an experienced Renovation & New Construction Estimator with Sales Skills to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a construction professional who combines technical estimating expertise with strong sales ability and a passion for delivering an exceptional customer experience.

In this role, you will meet with homeowners to understand their goals, assess existing conditions, develop accurate scopes of work, prepare detailed estimates, and present professional proposals that lead to signed contracts. You’ll identify opportunities to improve each project by recommending layout enhancements, structural solutions, upgraded finishes, and value-added features that maximize both the functionality and value of the finished space.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience estimating residential construction projects, obtaining pricing from suppliers and subcontractors, and possesses a thorough understanding of residential construction practices, structural modifications, and the Alberta Building Code as it applies to Calgary and surrounding municipalities.

Success in this role requires strong construction knowledge, excellent communication and closing skills, exceptional attention to detail, proficiency with modern construction management technology, and the ability to confidently guide homeowners from the initial consultation through to a signed agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with homeowners to understand their renovation goals, budget, and vision.
  • Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions and identify construction and structural requirements.
  • Develop detailed scopes of work and accurate construction estimates.
  • Obtain pricing from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure competitive and accurate project costing.
  • Prepare and present professional project proposals.
  • Build trust with homeowners by clearly explaining construction methods, timelines, costs, and project requirements.
  • Recommend value-added upgrades, premium finishes, layout improvements, and structural solutions that enhance each project.
  • Confidently ask for the sale, professionally handle objections, and follow up on proposals to maximize closing opportunities.
  • Ensure all proposed work complies with the Alberta Building Code and municipal requirements throughout Calgary and the surrounding area.
  • Assess structural modifications including beams, load-bearing walls, framing, foundations, and other structural considerations.
  • Read and interpret architectural, structural, and construction drawings.
  • Utilize our construction management platform and related software to prepare estimates, manage customer information, track projects, and maintain accurate project documentation.
  • Work closely with the design and production teams to ensure a seamless transition from signed contract to construction.
  • Maintain organized estimating files, pricing databases, and customer records.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and trade partners.
  • Represent Basement Builders with professionalism, integrity, and exceptional customer service.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience estimating and selling residential renovation or new construction projects.
  • Proven ability to accurately estimate residential construction projects and consistently close sales.
  • Extensive experience obtaining pricing from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Strong understanding of residential construction methods, materials, sequencing, and structural construction.
  • Experience evaluating structural modifications, including beams, load-bearing walls, framing, foundations, and other structural components.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Alberta Building Code and municipal building requirements throughout Calgary and the surrounding area.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and construction drawings.
  • Proficient with construction management software, estimating software, CRM platforms, and other digital tools used within the residential construction industry.
  • Comfortable learning and adopting new technology to improve estimating accuracy, project management, and the customer experience.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and closing skills.
  • Ability to confidently recommend upgrades, premium finishes, and value-added solutions that benefit the homeowner.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
