Driver – Field Operations
Torch Remote Camps
Location: Fort St. John, BC
Reports To: Transport and Safety Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Summary
The Driver – Field Operations is responsible for the safe, reliable, and timely transportation of company staff between the Fort St. John office and various remote camp locations, and vice versa with some travels to the Edmonton Office as required. This position plays an important role in supporting field operations by ensuring employees reach their assigned work locations safely and on schedule.
When not performing scheduled staff transportation, the Driver – Field Operations will assist the Logistics and Operations team with day-to-day activities, including deliveries, supply movement, vehicle coordination, and other operational requirements as well as other tasks that the supervisor may assign.
Key Responsibilities
Staff Transportation
- Safely transport employees between the Fort St. John office, remote camps, worksites, and other designated locations.
- Follow scheduled staff rotations, pick-up times, and transportation requirements.
- Operate company vehicles safely and responsibly in accordance with company policies and applicable provincial regulations.
- Adjust driving practices according to changing road, traffic, and weather conditions, particularly when travelling to remote locations.
- Maintain professional and courteous conduct when transporting employees.
- Ensure passengers follow company vehicle safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage records, and other required transportation documentation.
Vehicle Safety & Maintenance
- Conduct and document required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections if required.
- Ensure assigned vehicles are clean, safe, fueled, and ready for operation.
- Promptly report vehicle defects, damage, maintenance requirements, incidents, or safety concerns.
- Coordinate with the appropriate personnel regarding vehicle servicing and preventative maintenance.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of company vehicles.
Logistics & Field Operations Support
- Assist the Logistics team with daily operational requirements when not assigned to staff transportation.
- Provide additional operational support during busy periods, staff rotations, mobilizations, and demobilizations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a clean and acceptable driver’s abstract.
- Five (5) years of commercial or professional driving experience preferred.
- Previous experience transporting employees or passengers to remote camps, industrial sites, or oil and gas locations is considered a strong asset.
- Experience driving in Northern British Columbia and on remote or resource roads is an asset.
- Knowledge of safe driving practices and vehicle inspection requirements.
- Ability to drive safely during varying road and weather conditions.
- Strong attention to safety, reliability, and punctuality.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and follow transportation schedules.
- Ability and willingness to assist with physical logistics duties, including loading, unloading, and handling supplies.
- Must be dependable and able to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when transporting employees.
Working Conditions
- Regular travel between Fort St. John and remote camp locations.
- Extended periods of driving may be required.
- Work may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or changing schedules depending on employee rotations and operational requirements.
- Exposure to winter driving, gravel/resource roads, and changing weather and road conditions.
- Some physical work involving lifting, loading, unloading, and moving supplies may be required.
