Full job description

The Student Care Supervisor is a member of Operations Leadership Team and collaborates with international partners to organize student’s program in Canada, managing the student process after their application has been received and processed - this includes their homestay placement, course selection for long-term students, and ensuring all government documentation prior to the student’s arrival in Canada are completed and in order. Once student arrives in Canada, the Student Care Supervisor might serve as custodian for Long-Term students and also supports the Local Coordinators who are custodians for other students in their care. Most importantly, the Student Care Supervisor provides personal support and counselling to the Local Coordinator on student and host management issues. Additionally, the Student Care Supervisor reviews reports prepared by the Local Coordinators - tracks the student’s progress and manages their experience in Canada to ensure overall academic and experiential success. Work is executed in a hybrid work setting - from home and in the office. The Student Care Supervisor will travel to meet with Local Coordinators and, from time to time, students at their schools or with their host families.

Major Duties: Student Support and Care

  • Acts as Custodial Guardians for the specific students
  • Acts as the main contact for the Local Coordinators who are also Custodial Guardians for specific students
  • Acts as the main contact for agents, school boards, community agencies, and homestay families as necessary within their region
  • Arranges for or attends student arrival and departure to provide assistance
  • Arranges transfers to/from the airport for arrival/departure
  • Assists specific student with school registration and course selection and timetables students
  • Supports the Local Coordinators who are maintaining regular contact, providing continuous support and counsel with the student via email, zoom, and other social media, including crisis intervention
  • Supervises Local Coordinators to track the progress of the students during their stay in the program
  • Ensures that Pastoral issues are updated in the system
  • Ensures the Local coordinators advocate on the student`s behalf – in the event of incident/issue with the school or local authorities / or in need of medical assistance and offers support as needed through complex cases to ensure a successful outcome
  • Participates in our team on-call rotation for emergency issues
  • Establishes and maintains excellent relationships with overseas agents who send students to our programs, and work to support their efforts to recruit more students to our program
  • Handles and mediates any problems that may occur with overseas clients
  • Responds to inquiries, liaises and communicates with prospective applicants
  • Liaises with all program parties to ensure all goals are met for the student’s program from beginning to end
  • Provides language support to the sales teams on calls, during student interviews, meetings and interpreting material
  • Liaises with agents, educating them regarding MLI’s programs

Education

Degree or diploma in a related field of study

Experience

  • 3 - 5 years of working within the International Education business preferably as a student counsellor
  • Experience in youth and/or counselling work
  • Experience in a supervisory role
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Canadian Immigration system and its requirements
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Canadian High School Education system and policies on student admissions
  • Working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to adapt quickly
  • Experience with public speaking · Experience dealing with complex interpersonal situations with colleagues, students, families, etc.

Technical Skills

  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office 365 Suite including advanced skills in Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Adept with social media applications
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills are required. Other languages are an asset

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and at least 5 years continuous driving experience; comfort in driving with other passengers and for long distances
  • The candidate must be willing to take calls or work outside of regular work hours, when necessary – and participate in an on-call Emergency line support rotation
  • The candidate must have a clear criminal record and be willing to obtain a criminal record check
  • Canadian Citizen or a landed Permanent Resident
  • Eligible and willing to sign student custodianships forms
