Four Counties Addiction Services Team (Fourcast) is a community-based addiction treatment service provider that strives to provide the highest quality of evidence-based addiction treatment and case management services. Fourcast offers services across 5 sites in the region. The community treatment program staff work in-office and community settings and are often co-located and integrated with other organizations to reduce barriers for those accessing services.
About the position...
We are looking for 4 experienced individuals for our bed-based treatment program to work the following hours:
Every other Saturday and Sunday from 07:30am to 19:00pm.
Successful applicants will not be required to work overnight shifts.
Fourcast’s six bed Withdrawal Management service is dedicated to creating a safe environment for service users as they experience withdrawal symptoms related to substance use by providing a calm, respectful and supportive environment as service users move forward in their recovery journeys.
Working in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team that includes the program Nurse Practitioner (NP) and Withdrawal Management Workers the RPN will provide safe, effective, holistic, ethical, patient centred and culturally appropriate nursing care to best support service users’ recovery goals. Using a primary nursing model, you will collaborate with the care team to perform ongoing clinical assessments, utilize evidence-based interventions, as well as develop, implement and evaluate the inter-professional plan of service user care to address multiple health care priorities.
In your role as an RPN, you demonstrate a high level of proficiency and deliver service user care in accordance with College of Nurses of Ontario standards. This includes your adeptness in conducting comprehensive physical and mental health assessments, astute observations of patient behavior, and excellent communication skills for the effective documentation and sharing of service users’ progress and concerns. You excel in the management of medications, ensuring the safe administration and vigilant monitoring of medications used in the context of withdrawal management. Your compassionate and supportive approach fosters a therapeutic environment that aids individuals as they navigate the challenges of substance withdrawal. Furthermore, your expertise extends to crisis intervention, risk assessment, and the unwavering commitment to ethical and regulatory standards, which collectively enable you to provide safe, effective and compassionate care to individuals during this pivotal phase of their journey towards recovery.

What We're Looking For:
Education & Training
- Practical Nurse Diploma from a program recognized by College of Nursing Ontario(CNO)
- BLS Certification
Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a related clinical role in an addictions or mental health setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of CNO Standards of Practice and commitment to maintaining reflective practice standards as described by CNO
- One year of recent and relevant experience in the management of withdrawal from substances is preferred.
Certifications, Licenses and Records
- Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Valid First Aid/CPR
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certificate
- Certification in GAIN assessment would be an asset.
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) an asset.
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of harm reduction philosophy and practice as it relates to healthcare, mental health and social service settings and addiction interventions.
- Knowledge and understanding of addiction treatment system to identify and inform appropriate matching of treatment needs to services.
- Advanced knowledge of issues related to mental health and addictions in hospital and community settings and prevailing theories and interventions for supporting those experiencing complex addiction issues.
- Advanced understanding of substance use, mental health and concurrent disorders and have a demonstrated ability to identify presenting symptoms of substance use and mental health.
- Advanced knowledge of withdrawal symptoms for various substances and understanding of withdrawal management and the impact this has on physical and mental health with specific knowledge of opiate use impacts.
- Ability to engage in collaborative practice with interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to provide withdrawal management services from a service user- centered, non-judgemental and strengths-based approach.
- Set professional and personal boundaries
- Ability to manage frequent exposure to direct and vicarious traumatic stress.
- Recognize and support the aspects of an individual’s life (housing, income, trauma) and the impact it may have on a service users’ ability to participate in programs and services.
- Provide expertise in substance use and withdrawal symptoms to educate the service users.
- Health care knowledge of psychiatric conditions and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM).
- Complies with CNO Standards of Practice, Canadian Standards of Psychiatric – Mental Health Nursing, as well as relevant legislation, including Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act and Personal Health Information Protection Act.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety Act and infection control practices to maintain a safe environment.
