Full job description

Windsor Surgical Centre is currently looking for FULL-TIME and PART-TIME Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) to join our growing and dedicated team of surgical health professionals.

Windsor Surgical Centre is the first of its kind and the largest outpatient facility in Ontario. This 12,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility boasts four operating theatres, fifteen pre and post operative bays and a dedicated laser suite. Windsor Surgical Centre was developed to support and partner with Windsor Regional Hospital for the purpose of increasing access to cataract, cornea, glaucoma and retina surgeries for the community of Windsor-Essex and surrounding areas.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide complete patient assessments
  • Assist in surgical eye procedures amongst an interdisciplinary team in the role of the scrub nurse
  • Provides ongoing patient assessment, monitoring and intervention throughout and post eye surgery procedure(s)
  • Administers medications via multiple routes; and monitor their effects
  • Perform necessary clinical functions to facilitate delivery of comprehensive care and patient flow, as well as ensure equipment is in excellent working condition
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and visitors
  • Engages in ongoing health teaching to patient and families
  • Documents data and assessments in the patient record
  • Protects patient’s rights by maintaining the confidentiality of personal and financial information
  • Prior surgical experience is an asset

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Current Registration with College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Previous surgical experience and knowledge is an asset and strongly advised (Perioperative Certificate strongly advised)
