Full job description

The Eye Centre provides quality eye care for patients in Fort McMurray, Yorkton and Prince Albert. We offer a full range of vision services for eye health needs, including comprehensive eye examinations for the entire family.

We have an exciting new opportunity for a full-time Optometric Assistant to join our clinic. As the first point of contact for patients, you’ll play a key role in creating a welcoming and organized experience—from the initial phone call to managing patient records. This position also involves pre-testing, optical dispensing, electronic file management, payment processing, and administrative support for both the optometrist and clinic leadership.

The successful candidate must have a demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer care, possess outstanding attention to detail, be proficient in accurate data entry, and consider multi-tasking their second nature. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone wishing to transition to administrative work or gain experience in health care sector!

We are open Monday to Friday 9:00AM to 6PM. Candidates must be available for all of these days.

Responsibilities:

  • Greeting customers, answering questions, and obtaining preliminary patient histories.
  • Performing administrative duties, such as keeping records, scheduling appointments, completing recalls, digitizing files into an online system, and answering phones.
  • Filing insurance claims, completing reconciliation of billings, investigating discrepancies, and running reports on daily numbers.
  • Ensuring accurate data entry when processing information.
  • Completing opening and closing procedures.
  • Processing payments using a POS system.
  • Preparing patients for vision examinations, educating patients on the tests required, administering eye drops and seating patients at eye-testing machines.
  • Performing vision examinations, such as depth and color perception tests, taking visual acuity measurements and retinal imaging.
  • Completing referral paperwork and following up with the referrals to ensure successful transfer of patients.
  • Completing inventory for contact lenses and processing orders.
  • Assisting customers with frame selections.
  • Taking measurements, processing paperwork, and creating invoices to complete patient orders, collecting payment.
  • Working with patients and educating patients on the proper eye, glasses, and contact lens care.
  • Adjusting and repairing frames.
  • Keeping the work area tidy and organized, sanitizing between patients, and maintaining clinic to a health care standard.

Requirements:

  • Friendly, outgoing, and professional demeanor paired with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with basic office equipment, computers, scheduling applications, email, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to prioritize, stay focused, and communicate clearly in a fast-paced environment where time constraints and accuracy are of great importance
  • Willingness to learn and expand one’s skillset
