Senior Manager, Properties (Projects)

What you'll do

We have two exciting opportunities to join the Properties management team.

The Manager, North Coast Transmission line Properties (NCTL) and the Manager, Interconnections and Site C Properties
both report to the Senior Manager, North Coast, Interconnections and Site C Properties (NCIS). As members of the NCIS
leadership team, these roles share accountability for achieving NCIS strategic objectives while actively reinforcing and
carrying forward the team’s culture of collaboration, transparency, flexibility, and high performance.

Specific accountabilities include:

  • Provides day-to-day leadership, coaching and performance support to a team of approximately six (6) staff supporting the
delivery of either Interconnection and Site C projects or the deliverables for the North Coast Transmission Line projects.

  • Oversees functions such as planning, engagement and land acquisition related to Interconnection projects, and the
ongoing management of land and rights associated with Site C, and the coordination and delivery of property-related
activities supporting the North Coast Transmission Line (NCTL) project.

  • Models and reinforces team culture, collaboration, transparency, flexibility and accountability. Ensures their team
members remain fully integrated within the broader group by promoting collaboration and partnering closely with peer
managers to deliver as one team.

  • Works closely with peer managers to coordinate priorities, resourcing and delivery across portfolios, ensuring consistency
in approach, messaging and decision-making across the broader team.

  • Provides regular, actionable coaching and feedback to team members and supports career development planning aligned
with both individual and organizational goals.

  • Works collaboratively and productively with key partners in other BC Hydro business groups to deliver integrated,
comprehensive outcomes that reflect BC Hydro’s business interests.

  • Represents Properties in complex multi-function, multi business unit projects with medium-high risk impacts.

  • Leads or supports negotiations and agreements with internal and external stakeholders, providing informed guidance on
stakeholder needs, project requirements, and property-related considerations.

  • Exercises independent judgment on moderately complex medium impact problem solving.

  • Identifies and maintains moderate impact/risk relationships with internal and external clients through strongly influential
contact and negotiation representing BC Hydro and overseeing relationship management of staff.

  • Provides guidance to staff and ensures staff are compliant with internal practices, guidelines, and corporate policies.

  • Accountable for the drafting or review and recommendation on various briefing notes to senior management.

What you bring

The ideal candidate is an experienced professional with a background in complex property acquisition, exhibited by
education and/or experience, with a proven ability to lead and develop their team, and to effectively balance day-to-day
operational delivery with management of strategic issues and opportunities.

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience with at least 5 years of progressive management experience or
leading a team or complex projects/initiatives (involving managing people), in a related field of work (real estate, property
and/or related resource business management), ideally in a collaborative or project environment;

  • A university degree or post-secondary diploma/certificate in a related discipline or field, including management courses in
business, finance, accounting or equivalent experience or designation.

  • Management experience is necessary, and it is preferred if the experience is within a unionized environment.

  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

  • Experience balancing strategic issue management with core operational service delivery;

  • Proven team player and relationship builder, with strong interpersonal, communication, conflict management, analytical,
and negotiation skills.

  • Proven ability to take ownership of issues, effectively assess risk, prioritize appropriate actions, and persevere to achieve
results.

  • Experience in people management and promoting employee development by establishing clear expectations, providing
feedback and having difficult conversations with staff that are located at the home base office and staff that are located in
different areas of the Province.

  • Well rounded knowledge of business processes, budgets, forecasting and project management techniques is desirable.

  • Exceptional oral, interpersonal and communication skills are required and can represent BC Hydro in a professional
manner to various levels of stakeholders both within BC Hydro and with external stakeholders.

What else you should know

  • As mentioned, these are two M2 Full-Time Regular (FTR) opportunities on the team.

  • These positions are also referred to internally as Properties Manager 2.

  • Please note there may be some flexibility with the headquarters for the Manager, North Coast Transmission Line
Properties with either Dunsmuir or Prince George as an office. This can be discussed further through the selection process.

  • For the Manager, North Coast Transmission Line there would be regular (approx. 6 times per year) travel to project area
or other BC Hydro offices. For the Manager, Interconnections and Site C there may be occasional travel to project locations
and other BC Hydro offices may be necessary.

  • Shortlisted applicants will be required to complete an online leadership assessment as part of the interview process.

  • A condition of employment in this role is that you maintain your Class 5 Driver's License in good standing.
