ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described below but perform a similar range of duties.


1.
Safety

  • Ensure that members and staff work in a safe environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety rules and regulations are being adhered to by all, including but not limited to, emergency evacuation procedures, food, and equipment, storage and maintenance.
  • Answer door and telephone during shift using proper precautions.
  • Provide crisis intervention for members as required.
  • Ensure an active watch over both the members and the facility through the course of regular duties.
  • Understand and promote members’ rights and responsibilities.
  • Report concerns promptly to Team Leader/Director of Day Services as needed.
  • Ensure proper lifting, twisting and reaching techniques are used during job performance.
  • Remain alert and awake at all times, throughout all shifts.
  • Use PPE provided when necessary


2. Health and Medical

  • Ensure individual’s health and medical needs are accurately attended to in a timely fashion including personal care where needed, and that all medication is properly administered and recorded.
  • Recognize and report concerns of abuse or neglect.
  • Provide emotional support for members as required.
  • Ensure meals and snacks are varied, attractive, nutritionally, and calorically adequate for the dietary and medical requirements of each member as recommended in the current Canadian Dietary Standard.


3. Person
Centred Plans

  • Be involved in implementing individual plans.
  • Communicate necessary information, observations and concerns with the Director.
  • Provide individuals with support by gathering information on an individual’s goals and desired outcomes.


4. Individual Personal Development

  • Encourage and assist each individual to participate in daily activities in their program and community environments including reinforcing all expectations.
  • Ensure that the environment of the program is supportive, nurturing, and encourages a high degree of member involvement including decision making.
  • Role model appropriate behaviour and attitude supporting growth and promoting independence for the members.


5. Public Relations and Communication

  • Develop opportunities for relationships with families and the community and assist individuals’ to


develop positive social interactions.

  • Ensure all contact with others is courteous and professional.
  • Treat all members and other staff with respect and dignity at all times.


6. Program Development

  • Collaboratively create, manage and facilitate appropriate individual and group activities, special events and spiritual care programs according to member interest, skill and ability levels.
  • Promote social interaction and personal development.
  • Ensure all necessary components and any required documentation is completed for assigned activities.
  • Participate in ongoing program assessment, review and evaluation of all programs.


7. Other Duties as Required


CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

  • Member family and care provider supports
  • Pre-vocational and volunteer agency contacts

  • Education and health professional resources


MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP
RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reports directly to: Day Service Team Leader
  • Direct reports for this position: Responsible for their own time and effort only
  • Participate in staff meetings and training opportunities.
  • Be familiar with agency policy and procedures and implement into daily tasks.
  • As required and applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions, or procedures to management.


FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • Responsible for the wise use of member and program resources.
  • May be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash.
  • Maintain complete records of financial transactions as per agency policies.
  • Assist in the completion of inventory as requested.
  • Responsible for the completion and secure storage of records and documentation in accordance with agency policies and procedures, and the Department of Families’ requirements.
  • Record and report activities, behaviours, and any incidents which occur during the shift.
  • Ensure facility is kept in accordance with agency policies and procedures and the Department of Families’ requirements.
  • Perform necessary housekeeping duties and report any maintenance issues as they arise.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

• The incumbent’s typical work environment is a day program facility, with significant amounts of

work accompanying members in the community.

  • Hours/Days of work – Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (8 hours), paid meal break included
  • Day Service Assistant Facilitators are not permitted to work alone, administer medication or operate a vehicle in the performance of their duties
  • Working conditions may include dealing with verbal abuse and angry and/or abusive people.
  • The incumbent may be initially assigned to one location but may be transferred or redeployed to another location as needed, including adjustments to their designated start location.
  • Overnight or out-of-town business travel is not typically expected.
  • Moderate exposure to hazards: domestic cleaning supplies; handling of waste (garbage), bodily fluids/wastes, sharp objects, dirt/dust/odor, hot equipment (ovens, stoves, etc.).
  • Minor to moderate exposure to hazards: physical attack from members
  • Minor exposure to hazards: infectious diseases, toxic chemicals, scabies, lice and/or bed bugs, emergency response situations (fire, bomb threat, etc.) and other potentially dangerous situations

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • The successful job applicant will have completed high school, grade 12 or the equivalent
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable
  • Certified Winnipeg Police or RCMP Criminal record check including Vulnerable Sector completed
  • Province of Manitoba Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Province of Manitoba Adult Abuse Registry Check


Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Suitable candidates may be hired without previous experience; however, prior related experience will be considered an asset on hiring.


Skills and Capabilities

  • Occasional to moderate amount of keyboarding/manual record keeping
  • Occasional to moderate amounts of physical care (including manual or assisted transfers)
  • Moderate lifting/packing of member belongings or program supplies

Starting wage: $16.00

This position qualifies under the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Candidates hired will need to complete the Employee Consent form or the Employer Employee Declaration form.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $16.00 to $19.89 with a maximum of $23.86.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
