Schedule: Daytime, Monday to Friday

Starting Salary: $77,750/ year

Commissionaires Ottawa has an open vacancy for a Background Screening Supervisor to lead our ID Services team, working in person at our Ottawa headquarters.

What you will be doing…

As the Background Screening Supervisor, you will lead a team of 10–12 agents who provide identity verification and background check services to the public, businesses, and government clients. Your role is to keep the team running smoothly — coaching people, solving problems, maintaining quality, and making sure clients receive a professional and consistent experience every time. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines people management with day-to-day operations.

Some of your responsibilities include…

  • Leading, coaching, and mentoring Background Screening Agents, providing hands-on guidance on Digital and ink fingerprinting, name-based criminal record checks, pardon/waiver processes, and client interactions
  • Assigning daily schedules and workloads, balancing walk-in traffic with scheduled corporate and government clients
  • Conducting performance reviews, identifying training needs, and developing SOPs, training manuals, and job aids
  • Acting as first point of escalation for complex client issues or service complaints, resolving matters with diplomacy and sound judgement
  • Overseeing quality of digital and ink-roll fingerprinting, ensuring prints meet RCMP standards and minimizing rejection rates
  • Supervising financial reconciliation, including daily ledger entries, bulk client billing, and account discrepancy resolution
  • Preparing weekly and monthly operational reports on service volumes, fingerprint rejection rates, and financial summaries
  • Coordinating and supervising mobile fingerprinting services for corporate and government clients
  • Liaising with justice partners (RCMP, Ottawa Police, courts) regarding submissions, rejections, and follow-up
  • Enforcing health, safety, and confidentiality standards across all office and mobile environments
  • Supporting your team through the day-to-day realities of people management — including scheduling, attendance, and working through workplace challenges with fairness and consistency

What’s in it for you?

  • Work for a reputable and nationally known company
  • Work in a challenging and rewarding work environment
  • Employer paid professional development
  • A comprehensive benefits package
  • Generous paid time off, holidays and sick days
  • Retirement plans with company matching of employee contributions
  • Employee discount programs, social outings and holiday gatherings
  • Free Parking on-site

You’re a good fit if you

  • Proven supervisory or team leadership experience, with the ability to coach, develop, and hold staff accountable
  • Exceptional bilingual communication skills; oral and written, in both English and French
  • Strong customer/client service orientation, with the ability to handle escalated situations with professionalism and diplomacy
  • Exceptional discretion and the ability to manage confidential information with accuracy and integrity
  • Superior organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced, multi-priority environment
  • A high degree of analytical thinking, sound judgement, and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, with intermediate to advanced Excel proficiency
  • Experience with fingerprinting, background screening workflows, or a related technical field
  • Ability to lead by example, modeling accountability, professionalism, and client service excellence

Your must-haves:

  • A valid Secret security clearance (with no restrictions), or the ability to obtain one in a timely manner
  • Fluency in English; French language skills are strongly preferred for this bilingual role
  • Flexibility to work across Ottawa (Nepean), Gatineau, and Ottawa Downtown offices
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Solid computer skills (MS Office Suite and Client Relationship Management systems or other software programs)
