Job Description

The Railway Construction Foreman is responsible for leading field crews on railway and elevated rail infrastructure projects while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to project specifications. Reporting to the Superintendent or Project Manager, the Foreman coordinates daily operations, maintains productivity and quality standards, and acts as the primary on-site contact between crews, subcontractors, management, and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise daily railway construction activities
  • Lead crews in a safe, productive, and professional manner
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations, railway rules, and company policies
  • Conduct toolbox meetings, hazard assessments, and equipment inspections
  • Plan daily and weekly work schedules to meet production targets and project timelines
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, grades, and specifications
  • Monitor workmanship, track quality control, and ensure work meets project standards
  • Coordinate labour, equipment, and materials efficiently
  • Maintain site reports, production records, safety documentation, and timesheets
  • Support employee development, training, and positive crew relations
  • Communicate progress, delays, and site concerns to management

Qualifications & Skills

  • 3–5 years of experience in railway, civil, or heavy construction projects
  • Previous foreman or supervisory experience preferred
  • Valid Alberta driver’s license with clean abstract
  • Ability to pass railway rules testing and required certifications
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced construction and active rail environments
  • Strong understanding of construction safety procedures and field operations
