About the Position:
The Radio Chemistry Senior Analyst is a technical leadership role responsible for establishing, developing, validating, and implementing radiochemical analytical methods within a newly developed laboratory. The position plays a critical role in ensuring regulatory compliance and maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity, safety, quality, and operational performance.
The Senior Analyst will have overall accountability for the technical, quality, and production aspects of radiochemistry services, including method development and accreditation, commercial delivery, resource management, and technical support to internal and external clients. Working closely with the management team, the role will provide technical leadership and strategic input into the development and direction of radiochemistry operations, ensuring services consistently meet ALS quality standards, client requirements, turnaround times, and efficiency expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
Method Development & Innovation
-
Develop and validate analytical protocols using techniques such as:
-
Alpha and beta spectroscopy
-
Liquid scintillation counting (LSC)
-
Evaluate and implement emerging technologies and instrumentation to enhance analytical capabilities and throughput.
Laboratory Production
-
Oversee daily laboratory operations, including scheduling, resource allocation, and performance management.
-
Contribute to a culture of scientific excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
-
Participate in regular team meetings, performance reviews, and training sessions.
Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance
-
Ensure all laboratory activities comply with national and international regulatory standards (e.g., CNSC, IAEA, ISO 17025, GMP, GLP).
-
Lead the preparation and execution of method validation protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical documentation.
-
Support internal and external audits, inspections, and quality assurance reviews.
-
Maintain rigorous documentation and data integrity practices in accordance with regulatory and scientific standards.
Instrumentation & Facility Oversight
-
Manage the calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Radio Chemistry analytical instrumentation.
-
Coordinate with engineering and IT teams to ensure optimal laboratory infrastructure, data systems, and radiation safety controls.
-
Oversee radioactive material handling, storage, and waste disposal in compliance with radiation protection guidelines.
-
Prepare and present technical reports, research findings, and project updates to internal stakeholders and external partners.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
-
Deep understanding of nuclear decay processes, radiochemical separations, and radiation detection principles.
-
Proficiency in operating and interpreting data from instrumentation (e.g., alpha spectrometers, LSC, ICP-MS).
-
Experience with method validation, uncertainty analysis, and statistical data evaluation is an asset not required.
-
Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as CNSC, IAEA, FDA, Health Canada, ISO 17025, and GMP/GLP standards
-
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
-
Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
-
Commitment to safety, quality, and scientific integrity
Required Qualifications:
-
B.Sc. in Chemistry, Preferred M.Sc. Radiochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related field.
-
Minimum 3-4 years with M.Sc. or 5–6 years with B.Sc. hands-on experience in radiochemical lab analytical and method development.
Physical Demands :
-
Work is performed in a laboratory environment with exposure to radioactive materials and instrumentation.
-
Must adhere to strict radiation safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
-
Must be able to lift 25 to 30 Lbs. weight
-
Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities.
-
May be exposed to unpleasant odours.

An estimated annual salary ranging from $70,000 - $100,000 at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
