Full job description

About Us
We are a rapidly growing science, engineering, and biotechnology company developing advanced laboratory instruments, molecular diagnostics, sequencing platforms, and automated manufacturing systems.
Our products integrate mechanical engineering, electronics, fluidics, optics, molecular biology, and software into complete systems used in laboratories around the world.
We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer who enjoys designing real hardware, figuring out why something doesn't work, and turning a rough concept into a manufacturable, reliable product.

The Role
As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll own the design of components, assemblies, and mechanisms that go into our instruments — from concept through prototype, testing, and production release.

You'll design to specifications, produce engineering drawings, build and test prototypes, gather data, analyze how your design actually performs, and iterate until completion.
This role is ideal for someone who is curious, self-directed, and comfortable working across mechanical, fluidic, and electrical domains.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical components, assemblies, and mechanisms for automated biotechnology instruments and systems
  • Translate product requirements and specifications into detailed mechanical designs
  • Produce and interpret engineering drawings, including tolerances, GD&T, and assembly documentation
  • Design and integrate fluidic, pneumatic and thermal subsystems
  • Build, assemble, and test prototypes to validate design concepts
  • Gather experimental data and evaluate design performance against requirements
  • Analyze failures, perform root cause investigations, and drive design iterations
  • Select materials, components, and manufacturing processes appropriate to cost, volume, and performance
  • Work with suppliers and machine shops on fabrication, tolerances, and manufacturability
  • Collaborate with electrical, software, and molecular biology teams on system-level integration
  • Maintain clear design documentation, revision history, and test reports
  • Support the transition of designs from prototype to production

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Engineering Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Previous experience in mechanical design of components and assemblies
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and fluidic systems
  • Ability to produce and read engineering drawings
  • Hands-on prototyping and testing ability
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and drive projects to completion with minimal supervision
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong written documentation and communication skills
  • Demonstrated curiosity and a track record of independent learning

Preferred Experience
Experience with one or more of the following is considered an asset:

  • Understanding of electrical systems and electronics
  • Laboratory instrumentation
  • Biotechnology or medical devices
  • Fluidics, pneumatics, or precision liquid handling
  • Motion systems, actuators, and automation mechanisms
  • Design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA)
  • CNC machining, sheet metal, injection molding, or 3D printing
  • Tolerance analysis and GD&T
  • FEA or CFD simulation
  • Root cause analysis and structured problem solving
  • Statistical data analysis
  • Design verification (DV) and production validation (PV)
  • Python or scripting for data analysis and automation

AI-Native Workplace
We use Claude Code, ChatGPT, and other AI tools to accelerate design exploration, calculations, data analysis, report generation, troubleshooting, and documentation.
Successful candidates should be excited to integrate AI into their daily engineering workflow.

What Success Looks Like

  • Designs meet specifications and work reliably in real-world use
  • Concepts move quickly from idea to working prototype
  • Drawings and documentation are clear, complete, and manufacturable
  • Design decisions are backed by data and analysis
  • Problems are diagnosed to root cause and resolved
  • Projects move forward independently, with clear communication along the way

Why Join Us?

  • Work on cutting-edge biotechnology and laboratory instrumentation
  • Own designs end-to-end, from concept through production
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and molecular biology teams
  • Hands-on access to prototyping, machining, and test equipment
  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Paid vacation
  • Significant opportunities for career growth as the company expands

How to Apply
Please submit your resume along with a brief description of projects where you've designed mechanical components or assemblies, built and tested prototypes, or solved a difficult design problem.

We're looking for engineers who enjoy asking, "How does this actually work?" and won't stop until they find out.

Pay: $70,000.00-$105,000.00 per year

Work Location: In person
