Position Summary
Research Coordinator III, Research & Innovation
We are looking for a Research Coordinator to support a body of research within North York General’s Research & Innovation unit. The successful candidate will support multiple research projects of the Knowledge Translation and Implementation Research Program at North York General. These include a multi-phase research program focused on digital health, implementation science, knowledge syntheses, injury prevention and workplace health, and health equity for high-priority and underserved middle-aged adult and older adult populations. The ideal candidate will have experience in quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods studies, as well as evidence syntheses (e.g., scoping reviews, systematic reviews, and realist reviews). You bring several years of progressive research experience, demonstrating a track record of independence, cross-functional collaboration, resilience, and innovative thinking. You have excellent attention to detail and a proven ability to acquire new knowledge and skills, and to apply them successfully. You will also have superior organizational skills to manage multiple projects in a timely manner, flexibility to adapt to changing workloads, and excellent personal and program time/detail management skills. You will work in close collaboration with the research team, public/patient partners, partner organizations, research networks, communities and various internal and external interest-holders. As such, communication and collaborative skills are a must. You will work with the Research Chair in Knowledge Translation and Implementation at North York General and Scientific Leads, supporting studies across the full spectrum of research activities, including protocol development, recruitment, study materials development, data collection, data analysis, data syntheses, and knowledge mobilization. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated research coordinator to make a practical contribution to improving the understanding of injury prevention, workplace health, chronic non-communicable diseases, multimorbidity, social frailty, older adult wellness, and patient engagement across priority populations, and to support the advancement of the science of knowledge mobilization and implementation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring that health and safety policies are followed to provide a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and families.
On a practical level, you will
- Support the scientific leads with the quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods studies and evidence syntheses aligned with the KTI research program’s goals.
- Support the development and implementation of research protocols, REB applications, data collection instruments, and analytic plans across a variety of methodological areas and study designs; prepare consent form design and revisions relative to the initiation and conduct of individual studies.
- Lead and/or co-lead the planning and execution of pilot-testing as part of study materials development (e.g., online demographic surveys, semi-structured interview guides, data abstraction forms) and study activities (e.g., recruitment).
- Collect and manage data in accordance with study protocols while ensuring data integrity, security and privacy.
- Support the interpretation of findings in collaboration with scientific leads, investigators, knowledge users, and community partners, and support the translation of results into recommendations for practice, policy, and digital design decisions using innovative knowledge mobilization strategies.
- Support and/or lead the development of manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications, conference abstracts, policy briefs, and other knowledge mobilization products.
- Keep study participants, teams, and other interest-holders informed of progress through regular reports and newsletters, tailored to each knowledge user group.
- Prepare and contribute to ethics submissions, amendments, and renewals, ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
- Gain the cooperation of and maintain new and existing collaborations with team members, public/patient partners, knowledge users, project collaborators, interest-holders, and staff; and coordinate all project activities in collaboration with the scientific leads.
- Maintain impeccable records and progress tracking in accordance with the KTI research program protocols.
- Attend and participate in regular project-specific and team meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science or relevant disciplines (e.g., health services/systems research, public health, implementation science, rehabilitation science, or related field). Master of Science preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive research experience, including in quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, and knowledge syntheses (i.e., scoping reviews and systematic reviews); your experience also demonstrates your ability to work independently, collaborate effectively, adapt to challenges, and drive innovation with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience conducting knowledge syntheses in accordance with established guidance, specifically the Cochrane Collaboration and JBI methodologies, would be a strong asset.
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent research projects under tight competing deadlines, and skilled at prioritizing tasks across overlapping timelines.
- Solid understanding of implementation science and knowledge mobilization practice, with demonstrated experience in supporting the creation of knowledge products for the tailored translation of information for various audiences.
- Demonstrated commitment to the consideration and adoption of equity, diversity, and inclusion in all research.
- Experience in digital environments and with relevant analytic and data management tools (e.g., NVivo, R/Stata/SAS, REDCap, COVIDENCE).
- Experience with digital health, co-design, or human-centred design approaches is a strong asset.
- This position requires and supports intellectual input, decision-making, and maintenance of robust communications and collaborations with core and study team members, knowledge users, and interests-holders.
