Oxford College Peterborough Campus is seeking to hire a Registered Nurse (RN) or a Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) as a Supervisor for the External Practicum Site Component of its Personal Support Worker program.

SCOPE: The Instructor reports to the Campus Manager and is responsible for the external practicum site supervision of the Personal Support Worker Program.

FACULTY POSITION EXPECTATION
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide instruction which fosters students’ academic achievement and to maintain a challenging and constructive learning environment. In discharging their instructional and administrative responsibilities, faculty are to observe the definitions, practices, policies, and procedures published in the College Handbook and the Faculty Handbook.

The faculty member is expected to:

  • Review the syllabus for both lab modules and practicum. Review the practicum package with students.
  • Conduct all lab/placement sessions in accordance with the course syllabus, the schedule, and all instructional materials adopted for the course.
  • Conduct him or herself professionally in representing the College, its constituents, its students, and his or her discipline.
  • Come to each lab/placement session fully prepared, guide students and evaluate their performance carefully and equitably.
  • Provide meaningful ways for the student to engage in and contribute to the practicum site’s work.
  • Evaluate the performance of students in a manner consistent with the course objectives and grading criteria published in the course syllabus.
  • Recognize the student’s status as a practicum student, and ensure all work required of them is appropriate for their level of competence.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of students’ grades and daily attendance.
  • Refer students to appropriate College resources for information or advising, as appropriate.
  • Provides the student with an orientation – including general functions and goals of the practicum site, characteristics of the community and its users, and any key information for new workers, e.g., rules and guidelines, dress code, method for students to follow in asking questions, etc.
  • Participate in the evaluation of courses or curricula and make recommendations to the academic department.
  • Provide ongoing guidance and interpretation to the student, and review the progress of the practicum through regular meetings.
  • Participate in scheduled faculty meetings and in-service activities.
  • Participate in activities which promote his or her professional development and provide documentation.
  • Submit grades into the student management system within 5 days of the end of a module, and file all relevant documents in the student academic file within 2 weeks on the end of a module.
