About SWAT Projects

SWAT Projects is a Calgary-based engineering services firm specializing in capital projects, facility optimization, and brownfield projects. We focus on helping clients execute capital programs that demand both agility and technical depth. Our teams bring intermediate and senior-level attention and practical field experience to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and with lasting value.

Our size gives us the advantage of being responsive, integrated, and client-focused — every project benefits from senior-level oversight and practical field expertise. By combining disciplined execution with a collaborative mindset, we help clients move projects from concept to completion with confidence, creating value that lasts well beyond the final handover.

The Role

As an Intermediate Project Engineer, you will play a central role in executing small-to-medium capital and brownfield projects. This position requires strong project engineering fundamentals, growing technical judgment, and the ability to manage scope, cost, and schedule with increasing independence.

You will work directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams, supporting project execution from early scoping through detailed engineering and field support. This role balances hands-on technical coordination with leadership responsibility and prepares you for progression into senior project engineering roles.

You will:

  • Lead engineering scope definition and execution for assigned projects or work packages.
  • Develop engineering hour estimates and project framing documents.
  • Manage engineering deliverables from scoping through execution.
  • Coordinate and review multidisciplinary technical work in areas of confidence.
  • Participate in client meetings, technical reviews, and progress discussions.
  • Support procurement, vendor engagement, and contractor coordination.
  • Perform field scoping, site walkdowns, and constructability reviews.
  • Support junior engineers and designers through mentorship and guidance.
  • Maintain alignment between scope, cost, schedule, and technical quality.

What You Bring

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • P.Eng. designation with APEGA.
  • 3–7 years of project engineering experience.
  • Experience executing brownfield and/or small-to-medium capital projects.
  • Strong ability to read, understand, and coordinate technical engineering documents.
  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills in both client-facing and technical environments.
  • Ability to meet site safety and travel requirements.
  • Ability to meet and follow internal and client site safety practices, including drug and alcohol testing if required.

Preferred

  • Experience in EPC or owner-rep project execution environments.
  • Familiarity with CSA/ASME codes and Alberta regulatory requirements.
  • Field construction or commissioning support experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers or technologists.
  • Background in process engineering is preferred
